| My thoughts exactly. Although I've had shit load of arguments when asking that question. I've been told stuff like that the death star wasn't powerful enough to blow up a huge gas giant and that it took like a day to recharge the cannon so that the Death star had to go around instead. Frankly I think this is more clever. |

| That was the second Death Star. It had more power and a more capable laser. They had to use an array of lasers with the first death star and those might not have been able to fire rapidly enough to destroy to planets in time. Also, Yavin's atmosphere was much thicker than Alderan's so the laser probably would have just dispersed. |
