one of my friends got to meet Chely Wright when he was injured in Iraq. God bless her for being such a good person and supporting out troops. It is true you do not have to be for war to support our men and women who protectour freedom.

How many people that love this song actually realize she had fans pretending to have family in the service to get it played on radio? She's been a third-tier singer from the start of her career and got dropped from her label, so she tried to exploit soldiers to make a buck. Google for chely wright Tennessean to see the article about it.

I am not one of the fans that had to pretend. The level of her success doesn't really concern me whatsoever. And how exactly has she exploited them?

Without the number of dishonest requests made by people pretending to have military in the family, most people would have never heard of her. Real people put themselves on the line, but while most wished them all the best, some like Wright tried to hitch their personal careers to other peoples' sacrifices. Recording the song is one thing, but faking all this military family support for it suggests to me that all of this was to make a buck.

But then, that's not really anything new. A lot of companies use "support the troops" as a way to disguise their profiteering. American servicemen are some of the most popular advertising spokesmen right now, and yet they don't see a dime from companies that put on a show of patriotism to look good to customers. It's pretty sick, really.

Well, regardless, this particular video I posted was taken in a country music night club which sits in close proximity to two Marine Corps bases. The club goers that night, the ones you hear singing and yelling in the video, were almost entirely military.

That's cool, I guess. And it's possible that the requests from fake military families were a promoter's bad idea or something. I've just grown so cynical because there are so many examples of people riding troops' coattails to make a buck.

Midnight Rodeo Morehead City NC, approximately 15 miles from MCAS Cherry Point and 40 miles from Camp Lejeune NC. Great place, anybody who says Chely Wrights trying to profit from the military look at the size of the venture that she played in. That place is not big by any stretch of the imagination and she's truly doing a favor by just playing there.
