Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor- Kyrie

Video Description:
This piece was written to be performed during the traditional Mass. Because the structure of the Ordinary of the Mass survived the Second Vatican Council, this piece may be performed at non-Latin Masses as well.
The Ordinary of the Mass is as follows: 1. Kyrie - "Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy." 2. Gloria - "Glory to God in the Highest..." 3. Credo - "We believe in one God..." 4. Sanctus - "Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might..." 5. Benedictus - "Blessed is He who comes in
the name of the Lord..." 6. Agnus Dei - "Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world Mozart's Mass has been given the name "Great Mass" because, more so than any other work of the eighteenth century, it summarizes everything that had happened in religious music until its composition in 1782-17
83. John Eliot Gardiner conducts the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir in the Kyrie of Mozart's Mass in C Minor, K.427.

You know, I love every performance Gardiner has done except for Mozart's Requiem that he did on the same occasion as this mass. I hated it. It's kind of funny really.

I find this composition very beautiful. BUt hearing it, i remembered Pope Pius X's Instruction on SAcred Music in 1903 - Tra le Sollecitudini. It says:
"Since modern music has risen mainly to serve profane uses, greater care must be taken with regard to it,... the musical compositions of modern style which are admitted...may contain nothing profane, be free from reminiscences of motifs adopted in the theaters...." Isn't it theatrical? I think it
is.

This Kyrie is an absolutely gorgeous piece of music that is, at once, both incredibly delicate and amazingly strong. It is a rare gem that is beautifully performed here.

Sure 1 of best memorials on that Thu 5 Dec 1991. Same day too, in Vienna St. Stephen Cathedral where Mozart's funeral was held on Tue 6 Dec 1791, a funeral office was held by Archbishop, Requiem by Solti, Auger, Bartoli, DVD Google "amazon B0001RBVN2".
So Wolfgang from where he rests, could hear at the same time Arleen from Wien, Barbara from Barcelona - and probably plenty others of the most beautiful artists Earth could offer him from places all around the globe.

As a devote mozart 'fan' this is greatest performance of the C minor great mass to be produced so far! Usually gardiner tends to be rushed in his choosing of tempo especially with mozart, but whether by chance or divine intervention this performance is truly the greatest performance of this mass in existance today. You will be hard pressed to find a greater fan of mozart then I so on the 'greatness' of this performance, its safe to take my word.
