The debate on new ... ( 2 months ago by gloubloux)
The debate on new york dolls punk/not punk is idiot. Punk music is just an evolution of rock'n roll music that started from the 60's with the garage rock bands such as the kinks(listen to "you really got" me or "all day and all of the night"),the trashmen("surfin bird" covered by the ramones) ot the sonics, the seeds and a lot more. Then there were the proto-punk bands MC5, the stooges in the late 60's,then glam-rock(T.rex,Bowie... and the most loud of them the Dolls)
The dolls can be ... ( 2 months ago by gloubloux)
The dolls can be considerated as precursors of punk (outrageous clothes and atitude) but they are basicly just a good rock'n roll band. They had a big influence on the ramones,Television, Richard Hell and the voivoids, the dictators or the dead boys(New york's CBGB early punk bands).Punk is an atitude and comes from good rock'n roll(listen to the sex pistols). great video and great songs though

I can't even believe some of the garbage I am reading here and to even begin to think about commenting is beyond my imagination so I will just say this. If you weren't there, YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE! And who said The Dicks were influenced by The Dolls. I should call up Top 10 and HDM. They would get a serious good laugh out of that. Trust me, I was THERE!! And those guys used to make fun of me for going to see the Dolls play.

Television and the ... ( 2 months ago by EffinSkeletor)
Television and the Voidoids were around way before the Dolls, The Dictators didn't really like them all that much and were influenced by detroit bands like stooges or MC5 more than anything. but yeah they did have some influence on the Ramones and a ton of influence on all what was going on in England
many pedagogics ... ( 2 months ago by EffinSkeletor)
many pedagogics have used "proto-punk" for most bands that came pre-ramones and before widespread use of the term. you can't limit it to just those influenced by the Ramones. Yeah a lot of the European groups were heavily influnced by them, but most of the LA and DC bands weren't.
those were all some ... ( 2 months ago by EffinSkeletor)
those were all some really shitty bands you just listed. 80's glam was just terrible.
the Dolls ... ( 2 months ago by EffinSkeletor)
the Dolls themselves were huge Stones fans (early Stones tunes where it actually sounded like Rock 'n' Roll instead of lousy 80's pop) as for GnR, well yeah, they kinda sucked.

matter of opinion, obviously yours is wrong, but there you go. just kidding. i grew up with the 80's bands, and loved a lot of them, but obviously the originators of the scene, like these guys, are the best. i do love motley crue and hanoi rocks tho

you do realize the the New York dolls were all Americans, right? England had what, the London scene? a little bit out of Manchester? we had NY, LA, DC, (I'm gonna count Vancouver anyways because they did more US touring than anything else), and later Boston and Chicago. too bad you need good music in the form of a fucking tv show in order to enjoy it.

no disrespect man, ... ( 2 months ago by WillFierce)
no disrespect man, but MC5, the stooges, velvet underground, maybe even the Doors were the orgins of punk. Television formed in '75 , voidoids even later than that (the dolls were around as early as '71 so there go's your logic them being earlier) Ramones were influenced by THE NY DOLLS, some hippie stuff beatles, beach boys, and 50's RnR. the Clash wrent even that good of a band either they only had only like 4 hits any way. IN CONCLUSION, I THINK I KNOW MORE THAN YOU.

i just finished that kill me book by legs mcneil--wow-- i came away depressed... the drug use was insane and way past "fun" in my humble opinion.i was also struck by the high amount of homosexual sex between the artists, managers and record label guys...i suppose a good book but it just appeared that in the end most of the artists were financially poor and at some point just when at it for the money.
