"Unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent"---clear knock at Costner's poor English accent in an otherwise popular portrayal of the legendary Medieval outlaw hero. Flynn was Tasmanian, which is close to New Zealander and Australian, and Connery is of course Scottish. Patrick Bergen is an Irish man. Michael Praed and Richard Todd, Disney's answer to Flynn, were both English-raised (Todd was born in Ireland).
