Swedish Helicopter Crash

6/21/05 - STOCKHOLM, Sweden
I got this footage from last week. In the paper they say the "video showed the rotor blades of the Lithuanian-registered MI-2 helicopter hitting a tree, then clipping the top off a lamp post."
I never noticed the lamp being cut down, but you can clearly see it if you focus on it. This was the guy's birthday present, a helicopter ride! Instead he got a helicopter ride to the hospital.

| A 100 year old passenger died 3 days later in a hospital from his injuries. His family had rented the helicopter, to fly from his senior citizen home to a birthday party in his honor. All passengers onboard was from his familiy but he was the only person who died. |

| A technical investigation has detected foreign matter in the fuel injection system of one of the engines which reduced the possible fuel flow through this by approximately 50 %. Too bad he couldn't have realized this prior to moving down the street. Little Mi-2s are tough but not THAT tough. |

| That is right. ther corosion residuse in the fuel injector lowered the maximum posible start effekt in one engine from 415 hp 180 hp. Leaving the helicopter with 595 hp insted of the normal 830 hp. All helicopters need maintinance. Acc. to the pilot he realized somthing was wrong when he was at 3 m altitude. but he thought it was to late to land again beacuse there where pepole on the ground under him. (should be the camera crew and others he refer to) |

| I think it's all about diligence. Meaning, this Hungarian pilot wasn't as good as he should have been. Hind sight is always 20/20 but to miss the HP once under a load. There's not much excuse for that. If you're tryin' to pull pwr and you just get to the top edge of the arc then you set it dwn. That simple. Even w/the diminished ShHP he should have recognized the pwr loss sooner. |
