The killers version is not as appealing as the original. I like the vision, tempo, and cadence of Dire Straights' version much better. It is their song, after all. Knopfler's voice also has a haunting quality and feel lacking in the other. It would be as if a new artist tried to repaint the Mona Lisa and people said it was better.

killers is different, not better brandon flowers had a most "powerfull" voice than mark knopfler, in a lot of ways. But Knopflers voice have "something" that make Romeo and Juliet an amazing song. If you had first listen the killers version you might think it's better, but dire straits did a great job with this song in their moment and I think this is not so easy to be beaten

I'm 13 and I love this song too. It's good music, that doesn't change no matter how old it is. But I agree with your more recent comment, there should be more songs like this on the charts today. But I don't know if we'll ever get that.
