But what I don't understand is why they wouldn't have to have a singer from Switzerland representing their country. Otherwise it's just a performance by a good performer and really has nothing to do with whatever country is being represented. Isn't that the point, having your country represented?

"First of all they came to me and asked me to represent a country that's not even mine. 'Would you represent us at the Eurovision Song Contest? No pressure!' I was very young but the song was amazing. I didn't look at it that I was representing everyone, just doing my best. I went and I sang my heart out the best I could and everything went so wonderfully well. I'm really grateful and it helped my career"

I guess I just miss the point about Eurovision, I thought it was countries promoting their talent (sort of like the Olympics), I didn't realize they could recruit outside talent.
