Never seen this before in my life.. all that overtaking in just a few laps makes you realise how todays F1 pales in comparison :)

When I was a little kid I went to the 1966 Indy 500 and saw Jim Clark and Graham Hill race. I can still remember Clark's green car streaking by, I think Hill won the race that year and Clark was 2nd.

Remember this was a watershed year in F1, where the engine capacity was increased from 1.5 ltr to 3.0 ltr. Most manufacturers simply shoehorned the bigger motor into what was essentially a F2 chassis. The entire season was one of breakdowns and blowups The cars were monsters with barely adequate brakes and handling, and a total engineering nightmare Just finishing a race in this season was a major accomplishment

Not quite folks. ... ( 10 months ago by spitfireJEJ)
Not quite folks. Jim had a slowly deflating tyre which had to be changed - this cost him just over a lap. After his epic recovery, the car began to splutter. The fuel pump was fine but the design of tank did not allow it to pull the last few pints of fuel cleanly. Oddly enough Jim did not rate this as his best drive (he thought Nurburgring '62 was his best)and he quite honestly wondered why others were not as quick as he at Monza! A phenomenally great driver and an even greater man.

The Murray Walker commentary you can hear on this clip is a much later addition. When the race was broadcast on BBC TV in 1967, the commentator was actually Raymond Baxter. I have the original clip and the original commentary on a VHS tape.

Although Walker did commentate on the odd GP in the 40s and 50s (radio) and 60s and early 70s (TV), his main job was as a motocross commentator for ITV and road/circuit motor cycle racing commentator for BBC radio and TV. He became a dedicated GP commentator when BBC began their full coverage of all the Grands Prix in 1978.

Great posting !
I guess that Brabham was aware he hadn't any chance of overtaking the Honda even with the slipstream benefit:otherwise he had to keep the 2nd position entering the Parabolica turn,
and then get out of stream on the straight.
But being the lack of power so heavy,he probably had to gain the first position entering turn and then defend till the chequered flag. That's why he attempeted
outbraking,missing it btw.
May be he had his tyres worn out as well...
