After 3 years...

Video Description:
This is a video of my and my OTTB mare She's Cosmic (Belle). I got her when she was 3 (turning 4) and she was pretty much straight off the track. I was 13 :-P. I knew how to ride and had shown before but it was definitly a handful at first and I dont recommend it to anyone who doesnt have a lot of determination, a strong will, a knack for horses, and a great trainer to help them out along the way.
We started showing in lower level hunter and equitation shows the summer after I bought her. She was really well behaved and very trusting but she doesnt have the conformation it takes to win in hunter classes and I find the slow-paced 5 stride lines really boring. So the summer of 2006(my 3rd
year of owning her) we played around with some schooling jumper classes and had a huge blast. We placed in all of our classes, which was just an added bonus because my goal was just to make it around the course (I took all the long ways around). Belle loved it so much that we were going to start
showing her in higher level jumpers until she got hurt and I retired her (more about that below) This video starts and goes in sequence through the years that I have owned her. Please dont critique my equitation because I know my flaws and I have probably already fixed them (and developed new ones
:-P) by the time you see and comment on this. Also, please dont critique Belle's conformation because I know her flaws too. Believe me, I know every bump, divet, and mark on that horse like the back of my hand. And whats more, I could care less if she has Gem Twist's conformation or not :-P Shes
perfect in my eyes and shes perfect for what I want to do so it doesnt really matter :) The song in the background is by Rascal Flatts and it is called Stand. It's pretty much my theme song for Belle because it describes our relationship perfectly. We have overcome a lot of obstacles together an
d proven a lot of people wrong. So.. without further ado: Here we are :) Thanks for watching :) Update on Belle and I (as of 7/09/07) hey everyone :) thanks for all the really sweet comments. i really do appreciate it, it means a lot. I wish I had a better update and could tell you all that w
e just came home from a big show with grand in Child/Adult jumpers and we are moving belle up to the 3'6" jumper division but this update couldnt be more from that :(. I had to retire Belle from the show circuit and the show life. She competed in her last show The first weekend of June. We were a
t the show for four days, the first two days went great and we were having a blast but then things started going downhill. I was only showing her in hunters and eq. (at that point I had already decided to retire her from jumpers because it was physically too much for her) but everything fell apart
our 3rd day. Her back was so sore, her legs were sore, everything hurt all over and it transferred into her mentality. She was show-sour and unhappy. In every single one of my over fences classes on the 3rd day she reared and tried to run out the ingate. I got her around and wasnt disqualified b
ut they were no where near placing rounds. Sunday morning I decided it would be our last show, and our last day competing together. So to say the least, Sunday was probably the hardest day of my life. She was good for schooling but when I went to warm up before our first o/f class of the day, she
went beserk again and I fell off in the schooling ring. She didnt even run off she just trotted over the the edge of the ring and stared at me as if to say "Do you understand now?" It was the hardest thing in the world to see my once-athletic, competitive mare looking at me like that. All she wa
nted to do was go home so I just took her in one last flat class and took her home. She was so happy to get off the trailer, she was prancing and belloring to everyone. It was hard because she used to act like that when she arrived AT a show, not when she left one. Unfortunatley, the injury to he
r tendons from last year and her bad back from racing transferred into her love of competing and she just couldnt handle it anymore physically or mentally. I'm not going to be the one to force my horse to do something she doesnt love anymore so I retired her. For now we are just hanging out, I've b
een taking her on trails, shes pretty happy. I've got other horses to show but its been hard adjusting to not seeing her when we go. She'll always be my baby and I am so thankful for all the wonderful memories I have of her and competing with her. I wish things had ended differently and we could
have achieved the dreams I had when she was young but I hope that my story helps each of you appreciate the healthy horses you have and cherish all the simple moments :) Thanks for watching my video :)
