an extra 10 years to his life!! he died one year after being 'freed'' he shoulda been kept at the oregon coast aquarium, he'd probably still be alive

Thank you for your comment. Many people feel exactly as you do. That is why we are doing this film. Our goal is to educate the public and present the facts around Keiko's life, captivity, rehabilitation, and successful release back into the wild into his home waters in Iceland. For the first time we see him voluntarily leaving his human companions, swimming free, interacting with wild orcas, and socializing with family groups. This is something that captivity could never have provided him.

Keiko died of natural causes, and I would certainly want to have freedom to swim in my native waters over being in a tank for the rest of my life. Even though the tank at The Oregon Coast Aquarium was large, it was still confinement for an animal that swims hundreds of miles routinely for food, family, and fun. I am glad this documentary is going to tell the story, I feel like so many poeple don't understand what happened or what they can do to stop it from happening again.

I love this trailer for the simple reason of the information that Mark Berman gives us about Keiko, and this is only about 45 sec.
what I'm hearing in the rumor mill is that there is going to be a 3rd trailer w/ an interview of Naomi Rose from the Humane Society. Like I said it's just a rumor at this point, but I'm waiting with anticipation of it's release!!

Looks like it will be a wonderful film! Can't wait to see it. =] Keiko was such a big lovely boy! I'm so glad he got to experience the last years of his life in Iceland, where he belonged the entire time!

He spent 10 years between the Oregon Aquarium, Icelandic Sea pen
Iceland. Mark Bermam meant they saved him from that marine park in Mexico... if he stayed there, he probably would have died much quicker. In the wild, Keiko met up with other orcas and caught his own food. He swam long distances each day and "got to be an orca again." He ended up dying of a very common orca disease that both captives and wild ones alike get.

I saw Keiko with my daughter here at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, before he was set free. He came down to where we were, right after we got to the window.. he floated right there looking at us. This incredible feeling came over me, and I started to cry. He was just so beautiful and truly loved humans. We'll never forget Keiko. RIP Keiko I look forward to seeing this new documentary. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you for your inspiring words on Keiko. We love to hear these stories of how he touched peoples' lives, and the accounts of his intelligent gaze that many people were blessed with experiencing. You will enjoy reading Eric Engelken's personal story on our Blog (keikosdream.blogspot). He is an independent videographer who shared his story with us, and has donated his footage of Keiko that will appear in the documentary. Thank you for your support! - Joshua Records

We are still filming interviews and refining the storyboard of the film. We are also in studio filming and performing the sound track sessions. David Phillips/Mark Berman of the Earth Island Institute/Free Willy Keiko Foundation;Naomi Rose,Senior Marine Mammal Biologist/Humane Society of the United States, Dr. Paul Spong of Orcalab, help us tell this very powerful and educational story about the most famous whale who ever lived. They were there every step of the way as it all unfolded. Awesome!

I don't know if I'd go as far to say that he FULLY got the chance to experience what it's like to be an Orca again. For him to "fully" experience it, that would entail a pod. Yeah, he learned to catch fish, that's fantastic. Yeah, he swam great distances and still was able to survive, that's BIG step too. But, Keiko still craved human contact and he still had no pod.
I mean, he ... ( 3 weeks ago by WisePillow)
I mean, he experienced what it was like to be free, yes. But, I personally, think he was only able to experience some measure of what it's like to be an Orca. Orca aren't meant to travel alone. No matter how many other Orca and marine animals he met up with.

Of coarse, like I said. That's only if Lolita was released before Keiko. And seeing is how that didn't happen...Yes, I know she is still in captivity.
