This is the University of California, Davis Aggie Marching Band-uh! playing at Northstar Ski Resort on February 26, 2006. The California Aggie Marching Band-uh! is the greatest band to ever exist. So it comes as little suprise that they are not only able to march and play at the same time (eat your heart out Stanford Band), but they are able to SKI and SNOWBOARD while playing musical instruments (an incredibly difficult task).

Who in the hell told jslares and all of those aggies about the Cal Band stuff? obviously they know nothing about our band and how it is funded and run. I hope we some day get to play UC Davis so we can beat the snot of you guys, on the field and in the stands (with OUR spirit and sound) so that you guys can shut up. Go Bears!

Dude, what the hell are you talking about? Do you know how to comprehend what you just wrote or are all of your replies some sort of "rubber stamp" comment that you copy/paste? I was just commenting about how you're wrong about all the stuff you said about the Cal Band. I have NEVER posted a comment to this video before yesterday. The Cal Band is funded only on private funds. The band has fund raisers to raise money, or alumni and parents donate money to the Cal Band Fund. The band performs at various functions to raise money. Our budget for next year, so we hope, is around $400,000.

That will include trips to all away games (Colorado State, Oregon, Washington) for the SHB, a full band at UCLA and Stanfurd, and possibly, a bowl game. It also includes all the Big Game Week activities. We also have the Cal Alumni Band play during a football game, so the band pays for their expenses to make it out to Berkeley (their hotels, airfare, transportation, food, etc).

Wow, 400K. That is a nice chunk of change. Also, awesome you guys are able to put the alumni up for that game. So the whole budget runs off of donations and the Cal Band fund, which I assume is an endowment? Not a penny from athletics or from the university? That must be one big endowment if that's true.

Oh, forgot to mention, the UC Davis band's budget is 1/10th that amount. We still make it to all games, but we don't fly: we take buses, vans and cars. And let me tell ya, you haven't lived until you've driven to North Dakota for the weekend ;)

OMG I can't believe I read half of that. I'm in the Cal Band, and I admire the fact that davis' band still attends stuff if the students don't. One thing though, paying " between $30-$200 out of their OWN POCKET to offset the cost for the band to go" is just dumb. I'll be the first to admit that my school spirit doesn't overlap my wallet. I think Davis/Cal should just make a super-sized UC band once a year and march down to shitty UCLA.

haha, yeah. It might be a little dumb/crazy to blow your own cash on costs to support a sports team as they travel around the country (especially when you're a starving college student), but they're committed ...not to mention they have a blast doing it, so really it's win-win!

all the UC's are technically one school. We have the same colors, same school songs, etc. Although we do not share the same faculty members, all the schools are interlinked through the library system. Take out your anger on the private schools if you wish...but I have to ask, why all the hate against the inner UC system?

That's easy. YALE would only fund the new UC campuses if they adopted the blue and gold, made so familar by UC Berkeley. UCLA was only allowed to change to "true" or "powder" blue because they were going to be a division I football team.
