Actually, resorting to visual references is a technic used by many artists since ever (including the best artists known to man like Vermeer for example), and it's a not a sign of cheating, it is a sign of wisdom and professionalism. Alex Ross is a incredible draftsman and because his style is quite realistic he will resort to pictures so that he can render shadows, clothing and drapery in a more believeble way.

I love his paintings. But for some of the stuff that i do with my comics, drawing from actual references can be time consuming. that and he gets people to dress in these outfits so its not that hard. But he does have a skill. There is no doubt about that.

mittRomney666 eff of man Alex Ross can draw he uses them as a REFERENCE to his art not as his cheat sheet he created them on a thumbnail then he uses the photographs as a REFERENCE to make the art look as real as possible have you ever seen his work it looks so real my art teacher thinks hes weak but he needs to look at a pictures to draw things he can't do it on his own he says he can draw him all real but yet he needs photographs to draws it now thats using a cheat sheet Alex Ross is a mastr

every comic book artist uses reference to draw, EVERYONE, you cannot learn the human anatomy just by your imagination. Alex ross just chooses to draw realistically instead of using the usual comic book style using parallel lines.

I ment the typical"jim lee" type cross hatching lines he places on his characters or the dave gibbons art style, the parallel lines im talking about is just a couple of lines "usually from smallest to biggest" that can show depth of the character and help tell the story as stan lee states that is.....
