Alain Prost Tribute

Uploaded by: mvfF1Fanatic
Video Description:
My tribute to French Formula 1 driver Alain Prost.
51 wins 33 pole positions 4 world championships Teams: McLaren (1980, 1984-1989), Renault (1981-1983), Ferrari (1990-1991), Williams (1993). Song: "Feeling Good" by Muse. I don't own this material. All copyrights to FOM. Note: I have disabled comments. Too much arguing about a single driver, m
ainly whether Prost is better than Senna, or vice versa. And it's just spamming up my email now. Just watch the video and appreciate Prost for his achievements, even if you aren't a fan of the guy. If you don't like it, go somewhere else.

Prost didn't have a veto over Senna joining - that's why he retired at the end of '93 because he didn't want to partner Senna again. Williams went for Prost because he was available and they'd wanted him for years. And with his record who could blame them? Don't forget, old Noige still hadn't won the title then. Indeed, at the end of '91 some insiders in Williams reckoned that had they had Prost that year he'd have won the title by Monza. Mansell talked himself out of the drive all on his own
If Frank Williams ... ( 5 months ago by tomcowie)
If Frank Williams has proved anything over the years, it is that no driver is bigger than the team. He turfed out drivers either not long after, or even during their championship winning season (Damon Hill was canned in '95 though it wasn't anounced until well in to '96). Mansell didn't have age on his side, and I think they were tired of his constant moaning - they had the car, and there was enough talent out there to win races with it without all the aded hassle that he brought.
Hey mp42cv6, why ... ( 5 months ago by burpomatic)
Hey mp42cv6, why you dish out so many nonsense? Prost did veto Senna against him coming to Williams in 93.Williams hired Prost mainly because Renault and Elf were demanding it. Prost was fired by Ferrari, and he almost immediately began working his way to williams. You should read Mansell's autobio, you would understand alot of things pal.

Yes if all the points had counted in 1988-1989 he would have beaten Senna both times in the same car.

he was smarter than Senna and his 41 fastest laps against Senna's 19 says something
I was glad ... ( 5 months ago by McLarenMercedes)
I was glad Schumacher retired at the end of 2006 beaten by Alonso in an inferior Renault. The things Schumacher got away with was unbelievable, not to mention he never had a champion team-mate(A 39 year old Piquet for 4 races in 1991).How many races did Herbert,Irvine,Barrichello,Massa win before becoming his team mate? Zero. Not to mention they were all seen as 2nd drivers in the team.
Prost had Senna as a team mate.Mansell had Piquet and Rosberg.Clark had Graham Hill...etc
Actually Mansell's ... ( 5 months ago by McLarenMercedes)
Actually Mansell's shredded tire in Adelaide 1986 denied Mansell the championship title that year. Rosberg was leading most of the race and retired with tire trouble.
Then again Prost really deserved the 1983 and 1984 titles but didn't get them,so 1986 was a consolation price.
The unreliable ... ( 5 months ago by McLarenMercedes)
The unreliable Renault and Arnoux denied Prost the 1982 title. He led more laps than any other driver in 1981(so did Raikkonen in 2005). BMW had illegal fuel and the Renault turbo broke in the last race giving the 1983 title to Piquet.1984 should have been his.
Piquet got 3 lucky ... ( 5 months ago by McLarenMercedes)
Piquet got 3 lucky titles through the technical misfortune of others. Reutemann's gearbox trouble gave Piquet the title by 1 point in 1981. Prost's turbo malfunction in the last race gave Piquet the 1983 title, not to mention the illegal fuel BMW was using. In 1987 Mansell had twice the wins, poles and more than twice the laps led to Piquet in the same car. Mansell's accident in Adelaide gave Piquet his 3'rd title.
Not to mention Piquet insulted Mansell's wife, disliked Senna etc etc
Best driver ... ( 5 months ago by McLarenMercedes)
Best driver ever. Was on course to win the 1962 and 1964 titles when the car broke down in the last races of both seasons.Won the 1965 title in a Lotus when the BRM was clearly the better car.Unreliability denied him the 1967 title.Would have won in 1968 easily had he not died in Hockenheim F2 race.
Put a 2litre car on pole in Nurburgring '66 when everybody else had 3litre cars.Almost won in Zandvoort '66 with a 2litre Lotus against Brabham in the 3litre '66 champion car.Indy500 1963 was his.

Had Rosberg stayed ... ( 5 months ago by McLarenMercedes)
Had Rosberg stayed at Williams in 1986 I have little doubt he would have been champion. He was easily better than Mansell for the most of 1985 and Mansell lost the 86 title because of the shredded tire. I agree Prost was the best driver of all in 1986 and deserved the title, especially since he lost 83 and 84 unfairly.

It's your opinion, you are entitled to it, but I doubt alot of people would agree with your far-fetched list...lol
Steve Nichols ( ... ( 5 months ago by Underscrogman)
Steve Nichols (Ferrari engineer 1990-91) is on record as saying that Prost was one of the least political drivers he ever worked with, and that it was Mansell who was trying to play politics in 1990.
Nichols was exactly ... ( 5 months ago by burpomatic)
Nichols was exactly that, an engineer, not a team manager. Mansell is such an anti-politic, impossible what you said. And many other drivers support the fact that Prost was politically manoevering behind the scenes, namely Senna witnessed it first hand. Prost was very close to Jean-Marie Balestre...gives you a hint?
Look Muppet, aka ... ( 5 months ago by mp42cv6)
Look Muppet, aka bupomatic, Williams saw a 3 time Champion on gardening leave with no job and pounced. Why is this difficult to understand for you? It was a no brainer they'd want him. FW had been a fan for years and wanted him as much as Renault did. Mansell pissed off because he'd been beaten at Ferrari and didn't want the same again. And yes, beaten fair and square. But yep, Mansell's autobiography:...the absolute gospel truth - according to Mansell and..and...who else?
Oh right, so you ... ( 5 months ago by mp42cv6)
Oh right, so you discard Nichols's comment (one of the most respected paddock people) just because he's an engineer? And Senna was a saint, was he? Lots of drivers were close to JMB (Did you manage to read their comments when he died?) - Lafitte, Piquet, Alesi etc but, as you've said it, it must be true. Is it in Mansell's book? You clearly dislike Prost so why not give us all a break and go dribble over the Mansell pages instead?
Yes McLarenMerc, ' ... ( 5 months ago by mp42cv6)
Yes McLarenMerc, '84 should have been, but so should '90. Ever so close - that's one that got away. I read somewhere the BMW fuel from '83 was leftover Messerschmitt Komet fuel from the war! His record - 4 titles + the 81,82,83,84,88
90 very near misses point to a talent that remained right at the top over a lot of years in a very competitive era.
I respect Prost ... ( 5 months ago by burpomatic)
I respect Prost much more than you seem to do, and you have a hard time facing the truth, Prost was a very political driver, face it, and you could gain some credit if you simply did something else than fire insults to vent your frustration mp4cv6.
Nichols might be ... ( 5 months ago by burpomatic)
Nichols might be right, but just EVERYBODY knows how Prost was politically involved and he used that to put himself in the best position. Guys like Mansell let their racing do the talking and Senna to. It's only natural for a driver to want the best car. The names you wrote like Laffite, Alesi etc were not political drivers, just friends with JMB. As I said, Prost is one of the very best drivers of all time, I put him way above Schumacher just in case you didn't know mp42cv6...
I don't think Prost ... ( 5 months ago by Underscrogman)
I don't think Prost ever used his "connections" with JMB to gain an advantage. There is the question of JMB favouring him at Suzuka 89, but I'm not sure Prost ever wanted JMB's help, if he did indeed get it in the first place.
And Nichols' exact position in the Ferrari team is irrelevant. Fact is is that he was a key member of the team during the Prost years and so is far more qualified to speak on the subject than you are.
Everythin at ... ( 5 months ago by YRHDB)
Everythin at Ferrari always had to do with politics. The 641 model was evolved from the F1 89 by Enrique Scalabroni, who did a magnificent job. But he was overwhelmed by inner politics and had to quit, and Nichols took his tasks.
