no the barrel is military surplus (M3). I did have to cut new receiver threads on it and rechamber. I don't have the tools to gun drill and rifle a blank.

i'm not familiar with C.O.R.E. i'm assuming it's your state's version of a personal protection course. I wouldn't go hunting with it because of its length and insane weight. But if you did shoot a deer, the round would most likely destroy the internal organs from the shock wave but would exit the body cleanly like most FMJ rounds.

I really wish it was that simple. But ever since we expelled our British oppressors in 1776, our government has worked hard to ensure that we have no possibility doing so to any future government.
It may be, ... ( 5 months ago by GeekBoy03)
It may be, depending on what happens this month. The US Supreme is in session now and this month will make the decision on whether 2nd Amendment is a individual right. Oral arguments indicate they to agree it is, however if they decide otherwise, I think it is time to take the advice of Thomas Jefferson when he said, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

man i just fired my homemade .50 blackpowder musket at a lump of clay the size of a human arm and it went straight through and exploded the clay and then went through a piece of sheetmetal punching a nice little dished cricle from it which i found embedded in the 2x4 the clay was resting on, and that was with a 148 grain roundball and 50 grains of BP. although im sure your .50 is both more powerful and more accurate, but i do waht i can with what i have.
the only thing ... ( 5 months ago by 891albert)
the only thing about home-made .50 rifles is that the recoil is too much. the Barrett M82A1 has an advanced spring system which allows it to reduce the recoil by alot.
Most people ... ( 4 months ago by Trojanballer54)
Most people completely waste their spare time on failed projects and the projects they do complete is totally useless. Well you made 50 caliber rifle, so I have no right to talk shit about how you spend your weekends. Nice rifle. Whats the legal requirements that comes along with building a rifle? I'm sure you had to go through some red tape to get that done.
Good job and smart ... ( 4 months ago by greatian1)
Good job and smart to test that way. Why did you use poplar wood and not synthetic, oak or something harder for the stock? Anyway, vote Pro gun in NOVEMBER. If the DemocRATS have their way, we won't be left with anything. Even the 10/22 is on their list of "assault weapons" to ban. McCaine 08 (the lesser of the evils)

Woah nicely made! But tell me something, have you been able to get an overpressure round to proof test it? I'm not sure of the logistics of it so you'd have to consult others with knowledge in the field but it might be a good idea to do so.

I just took my C.O.R.E. It's basically just a hunting course with some gun safety. Also, are .50 caliber rounds even available in anything other than full metal jackets? I wouldn't imagine they designed a bullet that big for hunting...

uh no i live in the U.S. As a licensed gun owner, I can go to a local gun shop and buy powder, shells, primers, whole cartidges, guns and sweet shooting glasses.

no. Since the barrel was already pressure proofed (confirmed with a gov. stamp) my only concern was the bolt. I figure after ten rounds and no discernable deflection, cracking or warping, I was good to go.

i dont believe thay make hollow points because there is so much force behind that bullet that it would be like a brick of lead because of the mushrooming effect of the bullet
there is also a 600 nitro express used for elephants and shit

I imagine you can hunt with it! I'm sure it would be like putting a shotgun slug with double velocity into the game animal at whatever range you want.

5/5 for your machine work, but it would be cool video if you had a closeup of the gun in good light, and didn't have the wierd, loud static garble at the end.
You should use hearing protection, esp under that metal canopy.

Nice to make your own considering the price of .50's
The bullet is half ... ( 2 months ago by holdfast79)
The bullet is half an inch in diameter...it doesn't need to expand to be lethal. While an expanding bullet would surely be more effective, I'm pretty sure one hit from a FMJ round would sufficiently kill just about anything.
