No, of course it ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
No, of course it doesn't speak to what is in all people's hearts but it does speak to the reality that the few whites who are in control of the media deliberately Idealize lighter skinned blacks. Your speaking of an ideal or utopia of equality that is not the reality in any way that can be counted. If %90 percent of the women in entertainment are being hired and promoted because they are light-skinned then that means only %10 percent of the opportunities go to darker women.
Now you may end up ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
Now you may end up being 1 of the %10 percent chosen at a given time but there is still inequity. We have to deal in numbers and statistics to get to the facts and not emotions. This race separation was prevalent during slavery and resurfaced when videos became prevalent. Whites deliberately push light-skin and long hair as THE standard of beauty and black rappers and singers go along with it to appeal to whites. On a sub-concscious level it influences and enforces that belief.
I'm talking about ... ( 9 months ago by thewizboy)
I'm talking about Light and Darkskin blacks on a daily basis. Not those in the media, but just those in everday living. As far as the media its run by whites so therefore its the same issue as slavery having lighterskinned blacks working in the house and darkerskinned blacks picking cotten in the hot sun in the fields. It is to creat a riff between different shades of blacks just as it was then. My main point is that blacks no matter what shade are constantly discriminated against regardless.
Children are ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
Children are especially impressionable. You'll find even 6 or 7 year olds will gravitate toward a child of mixed etnicity,or enviously play with their long hair and appear privileged to be in their presence. Darker skinned children with typical ethnic hair are often quiet, ignored and appear to have lower self-esteem. If you ever want to know the history of this practice look up the WILLIE LYNCH PAPERS. HE CREATED THE DIVIDE AND CONQUER TECHNIQUE THAT HAS KEPT BLACKS...well devided.
Oh no doubt we are ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
Oh no doubt we are discriminated against as a whole by whites. But they have taught us through the Willie Lynch Decree to divide among ourselves by showing privilege to the lighter blacks, causing inequities that lead to resentment. So my point therefore is If you are dark-skinned you get the prejudice from blacks as well as whites!
Honestly its all ... ( 9 months ago by thewizboy)
Honestly its all crazy. White media or white society can't dictate for me my level of beauty weather i'm light or dark. Beauty comes from within, and until people start loving themselves and their skin more and not falling into the riff that white media and society tries to make between blacks weather in the media or in our daily lives then there are certain levels of insecurities that need to be work'd out. White images are shown as the standard beauty
I know thats just not true. I'm secure.
As far as everyday ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
As far as everyday living the last time I checked EVERYTHING was run by whites, not just the media, and therfore everything is affected; Politics, corporate america and entertainment though we are making great strides in that area. But what do we ourselves do with that opportunity but use it to re-enforce the stereo-type by casting asian and mixed ethnic women in black artists videos, It's just an ignorant vicious cycle. Honestly at this point I feel those women ARE most black men's preference.
I have to strongly ... ( 9 months ago by thewizboy)
I have to strongly disagree with u. If a darker black is feeling discriminated from a lighter black it could be because the darker persons has insecurities towards the lighter person for no real reason other than what has been taught societies standard of beauty. I happen to be a 'LS' brother with green eyes but no one can teach me to divide among ourselves because I have a brain to make my own decisions about how I treat other people black or white. Society doesn't dictate that for me.
Amen to that! I am ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
Amen to that! I am dark skinned and I have supreme confidence. In fact I have modeled. But that doesn't mean I am unaffected by how this practice hurts others in our race and that is of great concern to me because I am all about unity and advancement for my race and the human race for that matter. But like all issues these problems have to be identified and defined for what they are before they can be addressed.
but still again you ... ( 9 months ago by thewizboy)
but still again you are looking at what you see on TV. don't let that dictate beauty for you. I don't care if a person is light or dark or green or blue. I like people for who they are. I don't get caught up in those types of silly issues. People should learn to love what GOD gave us all individually and let that be the inner foundation of our own personal strength. To me the entire light and dark thing has always been a very silly issue, and I refuse to give it power so whites can feel happy.
my siblings are all ... ( 9 months ago by thewizboy)
my siblings are all shades. We are dark, light and in between lol. My mom has always treated us all the same. Color among ourselves has never been an issue. I will date so dark you can't see the person or so white that they're too damn bright and it doesn't mean one is any better than the other. I will take nappy hair, curly or str8, It makes no difference to me. Some darker blacks think I have an attitude because I'm light before they even get to know me, then they think feel bad afterwards lol
One should be ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
One should be treated with fairness and dignity regardless of their level of confidence it does not justify discrimination. We cannot start to internalize and self-blame when others box us out or mistreat us. I don't mistreat people...Do You? I'll assume no. Why? Because we know it's wrong regardless. There IS no justification but we can't go turning our backs on the entire stigma because U
I have the mindset to overcome it. As long as prejudice exists "Ima remain a soldier 'til the war is won"!
You say darker ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
You say darker blacks can have insecurities for no real reason other than what society teaches but what society teaches is the realest reason of all. I'm not saying it should be but is has tremendous influence and from a statistical standpoint it is a reality that they will be treated with inequity. That is a rational reason for feeling inferior because the chips are stacked against them. Honestly I totally reject the stigma because my family not society infleuenced my views from childhood.
I am the same way. ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
I am the same way. Funny enough I find brothers who fit your description to be the least color-struck! I had a boyfriend that was light with green eyes. It seemed at one point that's all that approached me. But some darker guys are so self-hating they are completely turned off by dark women and make derogatory remarks. I just pity their ignorance but other women are deeply hurt by it.

I'm glad that your family influenced you and not society. Like anything i believe it all starts in the home. Anywho i'm off to work out now. It was nice talking and always remember 'Black is Beautiful' no matter what. We have to love ourselves as a people as well as individuals because nobody eles will :)
Have a nice evening and enjoy :)
You are very sweet. ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
You are very sweet. I would ask one thing of you though. Try to recognize the difference in what we as individuals IDEALIZE as the way the world should be and what it really is. I am dark-skinned therefore I can say factually that there has been that sort of discrimination against me because I HAD TO LIVE IT.
It's not a matter ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
It's not a matter of buying into it. You said you have felt racism before.Well you have the intelligence to recognize what is happening to you and noone else can assess or undermine what you know.
If you drive a ... ( 9 months ago by LBurner1)
If you drive a Mercedes and the cops are constantly pulling you over and harassing you how would you feel if a white friend said" Hey Man, Why you so mad? it's silly to buy into that racial profiling thing", He then adds he's not prejudice so he doesn't deal with it. That doesn't mean that that cop wasn't prejudice! And that cop should be held accountable! U Feel Me? The friend himself could never understand because in that scenario he is not the object of hatred, discrimination or prejudice.
