Chick Embryo - Day 4
Uploaded by: Azimel
Video Description:
In lab of Fall 2007, I participated in a developmental biology lab where we did fairly common shell-less chick embryo cultures. Here is the embryo at day four.
The embryo you are viewing is still very much alive and you can clearly see the vitelline structures as well as further development of limb buds. Lots of movement as the embryo shifted in the amnion :) EDIT (10/2008): Due to the number of comments and questions I get sent on my three embryo video
s, I'd like to clear something up. These experiments were done within the CONFINES of a LABORATORY. I did not do these with my own personal stock of chickens, or birds, or anything else. The eggs came from a farm, not wild. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH OR PLAY WITH BIRD EGGS, particularly in the wild, but al
so it's best to leave your own domesticated bird eggs alone as much as you can and let nature do its thing, no matter how curious you are. (If you are concerned about the health of the eggs, you should a) contact your vet but b) _carefully_ examine the eggs via "candling," which you vet can explain
or you can read about _elsewhere._) Furthermore, the experiment was done in STERILE conditions, as the embryo would not have been able to develop in an environment like in my videos if it weren't so otherwise. So in short: don't go running around cracking open eggs just to see if you can grow them i
n a cup, kid. ;) There's no reason for it and not knowing what you're doing is cruel to the eggs.
