Criss Oliva was so underrated as was Savatage. Jon Oliva's Pain is still using Criss' riffs from lost tapes he made years ago. He truly belongs next to the greats EVH, Randy Rhoads, George Lynch, Vai, Satch etc...

I agree... I discovered him a few years ago(shame I couldn't have done this earlier), and since then every time I check out a video or a savatage track I just keep liking him more and more... he has that aggressive vibrato that sounds like he is putting everything he's got into it... plus his chops take me into the fiyaaaa

Yes he did in 1989 before Dave Mustaine asked Marty Friedman to join the band. Dave was a huge fan of Criss' playing but Criss decided to stay with his brother Jon to continue Savatage.

What a fuckin shame! I work with a fellow who has had 4 d.u.i.s and his brother has had 13 of them and they both still have their drivers licences.I'm serious! Those figures are accurate! I've been saying it for years - Criss Oliva RULED. He couldn't play a wrong note even if he tried. EVERYTHING he played made total sense in the context of the song - something only a few others have ever achieved. The stuff he pulled off on the 4 albums from Hall of the Mountain King through Edge of Thorns should be enough to convince anybody with half a heart. He should have been knighted for his work in Edge of Thorns, in particular. NOBODY played the axe with as much soul - EVER.
