You are probably right. All the songs that were produced in 1976 were punk and new wave was a softer compromise with a little bit of danceability to it and this song is exactly that.

Awesome. Dont make them as raw as this any more....but the title's wrong...the song was called Sex Offender by Blondie...it was the British authorities that called it X Offender

Blondie themselves have referred to it as X Offender since then. They changed the song name to suit the audience... so the title is not wrong, its the title that they released.

Notice how when this song starts it sounds a lot like the intro to "My Boyfriend's Back" by The Angels. As it turns out, this song was produced by Richard Gottehrer, who also produced The Angels back in the sixties! No wonder!

I disagree about tons of bands today that are this good. I wish that was true because I would be buying CDs left and right but that's not the case. A band with a great pop sensibility of Blondie comes once in a life time IMO.

because punk & new wave in 1975 and 1976 were just a tiny underground movement...who had just some echoes in New York then in London not elsewhere
That's make me laugh when people think that 76 was a year of punk and new wave...in the musical landscape of 1976...disco, arena (fm)rock, 70s hard rock, and prog rock were movement with a much wider audience...

even more... it was not before the spring of 1977 that z punk movement really takes off commercially... more or less how many punk albums were released before April 1977 ?
the Ramones, Patti Smith Group (is it punk? or a descent of the 1968 street fighting ideology) and what more ?...i can't see.
And even when punk had explosed by the middle of the year...z other movements were still selling as much...
Funnily enough progrock didn't die immediatly...but at z end of the 70s as original punk!

You are correct BohemianConspiracy! I miswrote my comment, what I meant to say was that most of the songs that were produced by artists from the punk movement of '76 had that aggressive non-danceable punk sound and it softened up into new wave about 2 years after. You're right that disco and arena rock had a much bigger audience, no doubt about that.
