"Fl studio sucks, besides it started out as freeware." Great logic. FLStudio allows you to use VSTs... Reason doesn't... Buzz allows you to use VSTs... Renoise allows you to use VSTs... Almost EVERY other music program allows you to use VSTs.... But not your 'precious' Reason... Which is why it's a massive CON, and I'm sick of idiots who've bought it because they know sod all about computer music banging on about how great it is, thus getting even MORE idiots to buy it...
Can anybody tell me ... ( 1 month ago by koksukay)
Can anybody tell me how any of the sounds in this video are better than anything that can be produced with free VSTs like Synth1? What's so 'amazing' about Thor? I've asked on numerous videos - please post up your 'amazing' Thor patches, if they actually exist. So far, nobody has done so.

would you stop banging on about your fuckin VSTs....if you dont like Reason.....fuck off and watch something that interests you..........Ive used cubase since 1990,pro logic, cakewalk,FL studio,Ableton live(which I have rewired to Reason) I think this is the best music software money can buy......but thats just my opinion.........Thor has really lived up to its expectations.

i dont know if your high or made a simple mistake, but i never said anything negative about reason, in fact i am a reason user myself. ( i say this because your comment was a reply to my comment)

Reason is a class of its own! It dont need any vsts. i think its Perfect!
Reason is amazing ... ( 1 month ago by katzcivic)
Reason is amazing and you don't need any VST's? Well I first started out with Reason a long time ago and followed it a little since, in all honesty, it's more of a beginner tool. I now have a home studio and Reason just couldn't cut it at all against my vst's, let alone my hardware synths, better software synths.
Get a life people.
Reason's sound engine has always sounded weak and Thor is no different, it's a weak synth, it's certainly not amazing. It's 'usable'.

Are you kidding me? Maybe you just arent good enough with reason, its excellent! But if you need all your fancy shmancy vst's to make music i feel sorry for you... reason is just as good as anything, i actually went BACK to reason when reason 4 came out... its powerfull and you can run ten times more "shit" then with your VST's... i guess you are one of those types who just sits there and browse trough your patches all the time :p hahaha no im not gonna say anymore :p

Wooh! Perhaps you just aren't good enough with using vst's. ;)
After all, what do I know? Since all I do is create music professionally & all my other contacts and colleagues who produce cinematic music all use vst's, real instruments etc as well, not 1 uses reason, wonder why that is?
Anyway, I didn't say Reason was pants, it's just not 'great', the idea behind Reason as an all in 1 package is superb. I'm just not keen on Reason's sound engine, it is weak, particularly with orchestral stuff.

True. You can use Reason itself like a VST, using ReWire. No need for more. ;)

"Thor has really lived up to its expectations"
Then you obviously had LOW expectations... I'm STILL waiting for ONE Reason 4 user to post up some 'amazing' Thor patches, which sound better than Synth1. And then, please post up some Reason 4 sounds (from ANYTHING it can produce) that sounds better than Omnisphere. Let me see... Reason 4, OR
Buzz and Omnisphere. I just can't decide... (sarcasm)
Judging by your ... ( 3 weeks ago by crystaltipps04)
Judging by your negative comments on almost every reason 4 video,it seems you have a deeper issue. Why dont you gather your best patches from wherever you think and I will post mine from Reason 4...then we could have a "SOUND OFF".....forget The Music....lets just brag about who has the best presets....then the winner can get to say....NAA NA NA NAA NAAAA!!(SARCASM).joking aside.your missing the point.its not the presets which Thor has to offer.its its capabilities as a synth. Its immense.
''But if you need ... ( 3 weeks ago by okidot)
''But if you need all your fancy shmancy vst's to make music i feel sorry for you...'' thats a pretty silly hypocritical thing to say. vsts are just applications that are used within a production program, like instruments and effects. technically reason is a vst based program as it is full of synths and effects that you are using. reason is pretty restrictive that it only allows its own 'vsts'. this makes it very inferior, the one unique thing about reason is the malstrom synth.
ive heard people ... ( 3 weeks ago by okidot)
ive heard people make some of the most powerful basslines ive heard using reason. that malstrom synth is very cool. thats about the only good thing i can think about reason. i think the sound some guy i know has been making some epic drum and bass, which usually isnt my preference, but it was the incredible overdriven bass that made me love it. have tried to achieve a similar sound with many other vsts+programs but to no avail. malstrom seems to be unique, but reason is very restrictive
How can you come to ... ( 3 weeks ago by crystaltipps04)
How can you come to this conclusion when Reason can be "Rewired" to any good music production software which in turn would allow you to use independent VSTs...restrictive it isnt.
you are missing my ... ( 3 weeks ago by okidot)
you are missing my point. yes it is restrictive, because in order to be able to rewire you must also own a different production program. you are basically saying on order for reason to be less restrictive you must own more software! This is a very different situation, which i clearly wasn't referring to. Using reason as a standalone production program can be restrictive. judging from the tone of your comment it seems that you are ridiculously over defensive of the program.
Actually Okidot, I ... ( 3 weeks ago by katzcivic)
Actually Okidot, I agree, I did use reason for some projects a while back, I was thinking to myself the other day, what do I miss from Reason, i'd have to say and agree, Maelstrom, I do love the sounds it puts out, particularly bottle blows etc. But Reason can be run as a client via Rewire, so it could be used if need be.
Also, in my line of work, I do much orchestral/cinematic style, I use very high end VST's and they just are so phenominal with my hardware modules. So I'll stick with VST's :)

yeh im actually in the process of getting reason4 to use rewired into ableton specifically for 'maelstrom'. i cant find any other synth like it. its amazing for making kick drums and subs. what orchestral vsts are you using. i own a copy of steinbergs edirol. this east west quantum leap looks amazing! massive gb useage though
Hi, I use eastwest ... ( 3 weeks ago by katzcivic)
Hi, I use eastwest quantum leap Gold Full edition and storm drum I and II, eastwest symphonic choirs and also Halion symphonic orchestra, which is also fantastic.
Combined they are amazing. I also use a variety of synths, novation supernova II, A- station, Nexus 2, Vanguard & others.
Which is why, I have no place for Reason :)
But yep I do like maelstrom'...

OK, I would say you are partially right.Reason isnt entirely unrestrictive, but what software is?.My point is I feel reason works perfect for me as in..if I want to put an idea down fast, before I lose "the feel".Then it is the right pallet for my ideas.

Ive used other software-cubase,fl studio,cm studio, garage band.etc, and none of them come close to what I want. One of my musical friends hails from a DJ background,he prefers to work with LIVE as his work is sample/loop based.Whenever we collaborate our projects, its simple,we just rewire reason with live.
Well in general ... ( 3 weeks ago by okidot)
Well in general terms of music making, it is far from restrictive, but in my earlier comment, i was summing it up in comparison to other programs that allow you use a wide range of vst/vsti's, which reason does not. There are many variations of reasons and types of music making that require useage of certain vst's. It was on this basis i was referring to reason as restrictive. As regards software that is entirely unrestrictive, A.live seems to be the most versitile platform ive encountered.
