Reason's sound engine has always sounded weak and Thor is no different, it's a weak synth, it's certainly not amazing. It's 'usable'.
After all, what do I know? Since all I do is create music professionally & all my other contacts and colleagues who produce cinematic music all use vst's, real instruments etc as well, not 1 uses reason, wonder why that is?
Anyway, I didn't say Reason was pants, it's just not 'great', the idea behind Reason as an all in 1 package is superb. I'm just not keen on Reason's sound engine, it is weak, particularly with orchestral stuff.
Then you obviously had LOW expectations... I'm STILL waiting for ONE Reason 4 user to post up some 'amazing' Thor patches, which sound better than Synth1. And then, please post up some Reason 4 sounds (from ANYTHING it can produce) that sounds better than Omnisphere. Let me see... Reason 4, OR
Buzz and Omnisphere. I just can't decide... (sarcasm)
Also, in my line of work, I do much orchestral/cinematic style, I use very high end VST's and they just are so phenominal with my hardware modules. So I'll stick with VST's :)
Combined they are amazing. I also use a variety of synths, novation supernova II, A- station, Nexus 2, Vanguard & others.
Which is why, I have no place for Reason :)
But yep I do like maelstrom'...
