It's a Larrivee RS4. They stopped producing these guitars in 1990 as the hair metal era was coming to an end. Anyway it's very similar in construction to the Jackson Soloist so I think the unique sound really comes mostly from the choice of pickup, effects and amp (don't have any info on that though).

No he didn't. He's alive and well and living in the UK. He and Europe toured this summer and are releasing a new album next year. He and his wife had a baby just over a year ago. Where do you think you heard that? Joey is one of the rare rockers that never even used drugs.

BTW, has any other notest that Joey tend to keep his hands in his pockets a bit much? I mean, not only in Superstitious, but in Carrie and some other songs to. It looks a little bit funny. Still a great song, no doubt about that.

I can't speak for bands today, but back 20 years ago most of the bands did. I just commented on the fact that Joey was one of the rockers from his generation that publicly announced he didn't use drugs, which was rare at the time.
