I'm happy for those who enjoy this, but i listened only for curiosity to see whether he'd survive to the end,(he did,but not the music). When i heard him in public,in his 60's he was very fumbling
inaccurate, even in simpler pieces. Having studied with Ravel has given him an unjustified aura of authenticit
é not evidenced in the result. Be realistic:this is unfair to Ravel. The playing is ghastly.

there is. He recorded the complete Ravel piano works in '55. You can buy it as a Vox Box set. There is a later set from '79 on Nimbus as well.
not the best ... ( 2 months ago by stewiestrapon)
not the best performance ive heard and i agree with the comment that the knowledge of him being a pupil of Ravel's makes a lot of listeners more lenient on him. if any other concert pianist gave this interpretation of Scarbo they would get a lot more criticism.
even so i would love to have heard him at the time he was actually studying with Ravel, and his performance of this piece is so effortless it makes it look easy, and that is the mark of a great pianist.

that is probably the early symptoms of parkinson: the involuntary movement of the chin.
Bravo Vlado! I ... ( 1 month ago by beilliatoy)
Bravo Vlado! I enjoyed this performance because unlike so many today I can hear most of Ravel's wonderful harmonies. Desspite his great age and in some cases because of it, he is able to give a straightforward rendition of a formidable piece of "music", not a athletic competition piece where greatest value is placed on volocity or speed at the expense of music. OK he makes mistakes and has a few memory laspses but he's elegant and how many of the detractors could do as well?

This great man was ... ( 1 month ago by beilliatoy)
This great man was not chewing gum or anything else whilst playing, he would never have done that. Had you spent time with many elderly people you would have seen exactly this kind of involuntary movement with mouth and tongue, especially during concentration. It is not a deliberate thing at all. And what does it matter to the music? You know, I've listened to many who are note perfect, brilliant in exucution and yet I don't feel I want to hear them again, not so this man. thank you for this post

Oh my goodness yes, you know I hadn't realised that it was his head hitting the fallboard, but now that you've pointed it out, it really is rather funny. Wonderful humour and quite a nice touch, bless him.

Is this believable?
Kid says he's been playing 7 years, he says he can play this piece flawlessly, believe him? Also, he says he can play "Transcendental Etude no.12 'Chasse-neige'" and get it perfect within a week. Would you say this is complete bull, or just that he's greater than Ravel himself? As Ravel has not
ed that he himself struggled on this.
