Yes, his chopin preludes was what got me hooked on Pogorelich. I heard the first 10 seconds of the CD in a shop and I just knew that I had to get the CD.

So many great pianists fail to get into the depths of this magnificent composition, but Pogorelich just nails it. His playing is technically marvelous, passionate, and masculine to the nth degree. OMG, the final low D natural is OUT OF TUNE! The piano tuner should have been fired.

The final low D's sounded really anemic. I think it must have been the piano because Ivo was pounding them out and getting zotz!! I saw him play all of the preludes live back in the late 80's and I still remember at the final3 low D's he put his RH up on the piano(above the fallboard) and braced himself against the piano as if to get extra leverage. It was quite something!
