it's about a couple that supposedly had nothing in common and it uses breakfast at tiffany's as a referance because, if i remember correctly, breakfast at tiffany's is about a working class girl who falls in love with an aristocrat and it was all scandalous. he's like "well, we're basically that couple from breakfast at tiffany's and that turned out okay." :)

uh, okay, heard so more lyrics and while my above comment might be true and the reason he referanced breakfast at tiffany's over any other film is probably because of the forbideen love thing, but basically he's trying to make her laugh and realize how trivial common interests can be. (he goes "do you know the film breakfast at tiffany's?" and she says yes, so he goes "well that's one thing we have in common." he's almost mocking her a little in a romantic way. haha.)

That makes sense. But breakfast at tiffany's was 2 working class people in the same situation w/ other lovers who fell in love w/ each other, if that makes any sense. The song plot probably has nothing to do w/ the movie, it just confused me at first. Thanks for answering my ques!

oh, thanks! :) actually i wikipedia'd it, and originally, they were using the film roman holiday, but their producer or whoever thought breakfast at tiffany's was a better song title. so that explains it.

Yeah, but "Breakfast at Tiffany's" scans better than "Roman Holiday" where it appears in the lyrics. Really, the point is that this pathetic dweeb is grasping for some connection to this girl who's about to dump his sorry butt...and a movie they both sorta liked is the best he can come up with. Plot of the movie is going deeper than the song really needs to make it work. And boy, does it work. This is one of the all-time great one-hit wonder hits.
