I love his long narrative jokes, btw, does anyone here remember the one about the stolen bike? He goes to church, prays St Patric to help, goes out and finds his bike goes in again to thank the saint - but I don't remember how it ended. :(

I "discovered" this guy one hour ago here on youtube. I think I'm quickly coming around to agree he's one of the best comedians. I can't believe I never heard of him, being pretty hip on the comedy scene baby. Dave Allen is unlike anybody I've ever seen in comedy. Solid from his younger days right up into the 90's. Of course it could be that I'm on beer number 5. Maybe it's nappy time.

I saw him on PBS regularly years ago. He's one of the most neglected British comics, which is a shame. I always liked his stories more than his sketches, and usually, it's the other way around with most comics.

GoblinGirl, I think that you are right, This wonderfull man is one of the most neglected of all British Comedians. I have always enjoyed his comedy and stories as they are always very, very Funny.

In reply to whispperson and GoblinGirl Dave Allen is not British but Irish. His comedy was largely inspired by his strict Irish Catholic upbringing.

Honestly, I really couldn't tell you, my guess would be no. It's hard to be sure as all the decades seem to be mingling a bit too much for my liking now-a-days! I wish someone would post heaps more videos, then his legend would live on in perpetuity (at least with those of us too cheap to buy his DVDs!) G-D bless the talented.

To the guy who said "He's not british, he's Irish", Ireland is Britan, your thinking of Great Britan, or the United Kingdom...
Anyway - Yeah, this guy's a genius, really. I could live of his work (if I could eat work), really! ^_- Wish he was still around, I mean, C'mon. His ambition was to "Look back on his old age" ^_-.

If wee being pedantic here (hey, why not?!),Eire (where Dave was from) is part of the British Isles rather than Britain.Anyway, I think he was an Honorary Australian as well!

Even more pedantic, ... ( 1 year ago by electricrussell)
Even more pedantic, in the Republic of Ireland people never regard themselves as part of the 'British' Isles, people in Ireland genuinely don't see it as a geographic term, they see it as a political term. To them you might as well refer to the islands of Britain and Ireland as the 'Irish' isles.
Out pedantic that!
