let me explain.. When Jodha married Akbar the entire Mughal Sultanate thought that she was sent to destroy the the Mughal Empire.. everyone tried to prove her wrong at all times so that she cud go away from Akbar. The lady who asks Jodha to eat here is infact the elder mother of Akbar and she hates Jodha. She has brought up Akbar since he was a kid as Humayun died in the battlefield. She tells Jodha to eat so that she can put dpwn Jodha in front of Akbar..

when akbar asks to eat from Jhoda's plate it conveys the intimacy he is trying to share with her and lessen the humiliation of proving she is not trying to poision him. brilliant on the directors part. given that they cannot touch and their expressions are so limited. also the courtship that follows is very tender and touching. what a romance. does it exist now. wonder how many are luck to experience it.

Although of the two actress playing the role of akbar's mothers; the biological one is a better actress, however the 'real mother actress; even though is not histrionically strong, yet she does convey tenderness, as only a royal of a bygone era could! Note how easily she accepts the bride from another culture. Just reminds me of what we see the various First Ladies, who we see play that sort of role. ;-)
