I am an American trained Chinese-American architect. I am 71 years old. I worked for I.M.Pei, Skidmore,Owings
merrill, architects,etc. I like most of the new buildings in Beijing very much! except the CCTV! My reasons are many; the asymmetrical design, after billions spent on beefing up the structure, still an unstable building that will collapse during the next earthquake! No they're jealous of you guys, I mean the ones who repeatedly slandering China and Chinese people, no matter what you do ... only shows they're jealous of the rising China. Any change takes time, in my opinion China has come a long way, and you guys are doing many wonderful things too! I hope more people will focus on the positive than the negative.

When an honest person sees injustice, the right course of action is to bring attention to it and try to get something done about it. The fact is China is the only large country in the world, that has been staying together with over 56 ethnic groups through many upheavals for the last 5000 years of history, to have watched China's recent changes against many odds is truly remarkable.

I'm very much in agreement with you apeppler. Changes take time, especially with such a large country and over 50 ethnic dialects, not to mention how they managed to still stay together for 5000 years, and making huge progresses in all industries as one nation, no any other countries in the world has been able to do so, it's a country deserves to be cherished more than criticised unthoughtfully, like many do here on youtube.

I'm just helping out vincentsidney with the translation here, johnldai is referring to the ones who are criticizing China, wanting to boycott the Bei Jing Olympic, he said without the support of them the Olympic will still happen in Beijing ... which it did, and the opening was beautiful as you can see. My translation is not great, but hope it helps.

willpaner: I wish I could say that it's good to love your country, but the value of patriotism is long past. It is a vice that only feeds into nationalism, and people turning a blind eye to the crimes of those in power, all in the name of "love of country." This is the 21st century, people need to think of themselves as human first, not as members of nations. This provincial mentality has to be shed in order for our species to survive the next century.

I agree with everything you said. But the fact is, China will soon be the #1 economic and military ( though not political) power , and so the rest of the world must be careful to engage with China, not isolate it. ie "Keep your friends close, your enemies closer". Also, lots of Chinese people are not at all like their government... like how not all Americans are like George W. Bush!!!
