ão 'dúzia' (ou doze) sempre foi usada como sinônimo do próprio 12. Meia dúzia, consequentemente é a metade da dúzia, ou seja, seis. Pra simplificar mais ainda, tirou-se a 'dúzia' e ficou só o 'meia'. Palavra bem regionalizada mesmo.
