Biblical themes in ... ( 1 week ago by GeoBubble)
Biblical themes in Rev 21:7 (Heavenly war); Gen 3:15 (God declares war on Evil); & Eph 6:12 (evil forces in dark places battle us), God is stopping evil & has won. In Genesis, believers (known before time foundations) are put in an embodiment in the world. The church calls out believers who put on salvation as protection in the battle. In the end, God reclaims those who are for him and rejects those who were against him (war casualities). The question is, are you on the winning or losing side?
In faith realms, ... ( 1 week ago by GeoBubble)
In faith realms, there is doctrine then practice/religion. Practice is not always doctrinally accurate. On a docturnal level Islam rejects Christianity point-4-point beginning with Sura 112 which is direct denial of John 3:16. Interestingly, Sura 9:5 is the Sword of Islam but Christ tells believers those whose live by the sword die by it; Mt 26:52. Doctrinally, evil seeks Christians out. Christians do not seek Evil but react when evil knocks with a rheostat of options to turn up the heat/fire.
My studied ... ( 1 week ago by GeoBubble)
My studied assessment is this advances a secularist anti-US agenda and a misrepresentation of Biblical themes & the US founding. Democracy originates from the Bible and to have a fantasy President who stands for Democracy in a Biblical smattering is in poor taste. "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected, in one indissolvable bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity", John Quincy Adams. This from a forefather says it all.
IRT comments on the ... ( 1 week ago by GeoBubble)
IRT comments on the 1st Amendment. The Forefathers designed a polymorphic governmental framework based on Biblical Democracy. Humans elect leadership into government thus infusing those morals & values into governance. At one time, the US was mostly Christian but other value systems are becoming prevalent & emerging in governance. Who knows one day we could be a Muslim nation after electing Muslims to office who pass laws. There could even be a call to pray in schools! Wow what a reversal!!!
IRT homosexual ... ( 1 week ago by GeoBubble)
IRT homosexual comments, operating outside the sexual framework God put in place is direct rejection\denial of God. Messing with God's image has consequences. He does not take kindly to that since he put different aspects of himself in men & women then assigned duties & responsibilities respectively. The proper union of a man & woman creates completeness for God. Sexual immorality (including homosexuality) is an importance message and a recurring theme in the Bible. You choose sides by actions.
World Breakdown of ... ( 1 week ago by gnorow)
World Breakdown of Religions - Christians 33.32% (of which Roman Catholics 16.99%, Protestants 5.78%, Orthodox 3.53%, Anglicans 1.25%), Muslims 21.01%, Hindus 13.26%, Buddhists 5.84%, Sikhs 0.35%, Jews 0.23%, Baha'is 0.12%, other religions 11.78%, non-religious 11.77%, atheists 2.32% (2007 est.) So when you Christians come on here preaching, just remember you are just a fraction of the total beliefs, and there are in fact more people who dont believe what your saying that do believe.

Gnorow: Prefer ... ( 1 week ago by GeoBubble)
Gnorow: Prefer intellectual dialogue over preaching. Nothing said of my faith. Correct, there are more who don't believe Christianity. Jesus remarked, path is narrow and few make it. Hindus converting to Islam was the largest conversion between faiths. Mohammad commented he felt a fresh breeze from Hindi IRT this conversion. Tenets of Islam, Hinduism, and Sikhism are closely related as thier scholars studied together blending the faiths some. I say Christians 39%; Islam\Hindu Derivations 36%.
Christianity ... ( 6 days ago by stephendbolton)
Christianity preaches love, no? GeoBubble, you can dress it up all you like, but this clip highlights the most salient fact about the "Christian" Right - they are filled with hatred ("ignorant tight-ass club" is another way to put it.) "The Law killeth, but the Spirit giveth life" always seems under-represented in these discussions. But then why would the words of Jesus matter? Find me a single homophobic comment attributed to the Son of Man, and we can talk.
DAMN! I opened ... ( 6 days ago by stephendbolton)
DAMN! I opened myself up to ridicule by saying that Jesus said "The Law killeth..." Serves me right for trying to do this stuff from memory. My broader point still holds, though, I think: it's hard to find examples of Jesus arguing for condemnation of any behaviour other than greed or self-righteousness. And GeoBubble's conflation of "secularist" with "anti-American" ought to make anyone a little nervous.
StephenDBolton: IRT ... ( 6 days ago by GeoBubble)
StephenDBolton: IRT Love, Matt 5:44. Even you misquote, 'Law killeth, but the Spirit giveth life' is from 2COR3:6 & is 'Letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life' referring to the Holy Spirit in believers. 'Find me a single homophobic comment attributed to the Son of Man, and we can talk'? The Son of Man refers to the humanity of the God-Man, Christ. Although Christ focused on Adultery, he spoke on sexual immorality that is inclusive of homosexuality. Christ came to save, not condemn.
StephenDBolton: ... ( 6 days ago by GeoBubble)
StephenDBolton: Christ came to save, not condemn. The Father reserves the right to condemn man, MATT 7:1. Christ does condemn conduct & tells Christians to discern between right and wrong. Christ, at the wedding supper, casts a man out because he failed to keep himself clean, was angry with the money changers, & vomits up luke warm Christians. Christ speaks of those who reject him & those who fall away. This by default results in condemnation.
Stephendbolton: You ... ( 6 days ago by GeoBubble)
Stephendbolton: You said 'GeoBubble's conflation of "secularist" with "anti-American" ought to make anyone a little nervous.' You are correct. Those things should make everyone nervous. Why would any US Citizen behave in a way that is counter to the founding and American patriotism?

I love how Martin ... ( 5 days ago by Flowbee79)
I love how Martin Sheen stumbles along in the beginning with his annoyance, with her not standing when the President walks into the room at the White House, but blends the opening of his rant with congeniality and then turning into an eloquent, smart way of saying, "Get your bony, tight-ass off that chair and show some respect for someone else for a change."
He's not really ... ( 5 days ago by Flowbee79)
He's not really attacking Christianity or theology. What annoys him is people using theology and religion as a club to beat-up other people, and then having the attitude that they are superior to others after using said "club".
Flowbee79: He is ... ( 5 days ago by GeoBubble)
Flowbee79: He is mocking her Biblical citing of homosexual conduct with a smattering of contextually inaccurate Bible quotes. The persistent theme is a religious smackdown in this show. Discussing topics like slavery does not alway lead to a moral lesson on slavery. A Biblical theme is the pursuit of freedom not slavery; Gal 5:1. The Bible provides character traits for when people are in the conditions of slavery. Discusses communal issues that arise as other lessons are being taught.

A great scene from a great show.
Of course, if the real life President of the US ever threw a public tantrum because someone was sitting while he stood, it would be unlikely that he would ever be re-elected as a lavatory attendant, let alone President.

So height equals greatness in leadership? No.
I actually he's ... ( 4 days ago by Flowbee79)
I actually he's showing a great deal of respect, and humanity and reason as well, or else his character is. It's her who is being disrespectful, not just to him for sitting while he stands, but to tell people that homosexuality is wrong simply because a book says it is. Where's the respect or reason in that? Bartlett has considerable respect for religions and faith, what he hates are people who use them for bigotry and pettiness. That's how he enters the show in the very first episode.

"I actually he's showing a great deal of respect, and humanity and reason as well, or else his character is. It's her who is being disrespectful..."
All very true, but the lady he is attacking has her own chat show so it would be her version of events that would be broadcast with the result that the President would appear as a thin skinned and pompous prig. It wouldn't be fair, but that is politics. Anyway, it is a great show and that is th

Don't be so sure.
1 WJ Clinton earned much applause when he rebuked a loud protester in the audience. 2 Reagan did the same more concisely and to even more uproarious applause--find the YouTube video clip 'Reagan tells a heckler to shut up'. Through the years, Presidents of either colour have put the impertinent
in their place--the extremists on the opposite end always scream in protest, but the rest of us always express our approval both then and in the next opinion poll/election.

OMEGA8515:> Why don't they show this clip at the white house?> That autta broaden some retarded right-wing minds.
By all mean, let us show it--but the need to learn lessons is not limited to one side of the political divide. The most zealous Donkeys are as guilty of translating their POLITICAL SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS into FAILURE TO SHOW RESPECT FOR MAN OCCUPYING THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT.
