Alice In Chains Unplugged No Excuses

Uploaded by: gloomferret
Video Description:
Alice In Chains Unplugged. Track 3, No Excuses.
It was recorded at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Majestic Theatre as part of the MTV Unplugged series of concerts and contains live, acoustic versions of the band's songs. The show first aired on MTV on May 28, 1996. The performance was Alice in Chain's first concert in two and a half years, as well as one of the band's final appearances with Layne Staley. In addition to the CD, a full length DVD of the concert was also released.
The songs "Angry Chair," "Frogs," and "Killer Is Me" were cut from the original MTV broadcast but are included on both the CD and DVD releases. It is often hailed as one of the most memorable unplugged's ever, compared among the ranks of Nirvana, and KISS. Mike Inez's bass has the phrase "Friends
Don't Let Friends Get Friends Haircuts," referencing the band Metallica, whose members had recently cut their hair prior to the release of Load.

laynes lyrics when ... ( 1 week ago by nashnwo1234)
laynes lyrics when right over your head if you think jerry was the better lyricist. i personally think a lot of the big songs of jerry's were only so big because they had such great guitar riffs behind them.

Well i say most of AIC songs (and the best ones) were Jerry's composition and lyrics, though Layne did his share of both things (ex. Angry Chair). They were originally a trio, but obviously got Layne in because the songs needed a stronger main voice, and many of them were too high pitched for Jerry. It was a smart move i think, because the vocal harmonies they made are an essential feature to their original sound.

what are you talking about...originally a trio? layne started the band with jerry.

Actually, the story ... ( 1 week ago by LYMBO2006)
Actually, the story is a bit more complicated. Sure Layne came up with the name originally, with different spelling, for a different project he had (they played speed metal). Later he met Jerry and they became part of each other's bands, when Jerry had the songs in his own project that became AIC's repertory. This band, called Diamond Lie, is the one i referred as to as originally a trio. Sea of Sorrow, Bleed the Freak and Confusion, for example come from this band.
Many people write ... ( 1 week ago by LYMBO2006)
Many people write music like that, for example, Steve Harris wrote a lot of material for Bruce Dickinson to sing in Iron Maiden. If you see the credits for "Down IN A Hole", they only say Cantrell, that's because he figured harmony, vocal melody and lyrics by himself. If you look at "Angry Chair" it only says Staley, same reasons. Finally if you check "Man IN the Box" both names are there, that means both of them contributed somehow, usually credits are not very specific in cases like that.

well you are making your own assumptions. and i really dont care how you view alice in chains, thats your view. i know for a fact that layne was the creater of the beautiful vocals in aic, also the harmonies were laynes idea. the guy was a vocal genius, the sooner you realize that, the sooner you'll see who alice in chains were
for man in the box ... ( 1 week ago by nashnwo1234)
for man in the box layne wrote the words, layne made the vocals. jerry wrote the music. even in angry chair, it may list layne as the only writer of the song, but ill bet the solo was all jerry, they didnt mention that though.
Your comment is all ... ( 1 week ago by LYMBO2006)
Your comment is all pure statement, but i do not see any reasoned arguments there.I apologize if i offended you and i take that people don't like to be contradicted, but debate is debate.I didn't say that Jerry figured all the vocals for AIC,but most of them when they started and the best ones in their entire career, not an assumption, but an actual fact basing in how the songs are credited and the history of the band.OF course details like matice and feeling are always credited to the performer.
i didnt intend to ... ( 1 week ago by nashnwo1234)
i didnt intend to start an argument. i just cant stand when people try to take credit away from layne and act like jerry is sole reason these songs were so great. i dont base my opinion of my favorite songs on how well credited they were by OTHER people. many aic fans find their less popular songs to be their most thought invoking, inspiring, relative etc. just so happens that those songs were written by layne. few people truly understood layne's genius. i hate when jerry gets all the credit.

mind you, i love cantrel's work. but aic was about the intertwining genius of both jerry AND layne.
About Man In The ... ( 1 week ago by LYMBO2006)
About Man In The Box,unless you can refer a specific interview or biography, i don't see how you could possibly know the exact nature of their contributions.About Angry Chair, a guitar solo is a musical arrangement, thats a whole different deal.If you read the booklet, every musician is credited individually for their own performance and arrangements, but the official credits stand for composition, not arrangement.
I didn't try to ... ( 1 week ago by LYMBO2006)
I didn't try to take any credit from Layne, or say Jerry was the only greatness of AIC;what i said is basically that Jerry did much more in the composition department, while Layne was a lot more focused in performance.Of course Jerry needed Layne,he singed damn better than him.The credits are established by the band, not anyone else dude, it's a legal document. Every musician that respects himself goes to the register offer to protect his work from plagiarism
