are you taking the piss? Its not rules you asshole he's explaining the structure of the music and not telling anyone not to listen to anything. Also J's tuts have helped many a Dj including myself. So unless you a rockstar Dj the likes of Tiesto shut the fuck up.

Not "taking the piss" at all rookie. No doubt J is an awsome dj but the best thing to do is listen to the records that YOU play and pay attention to intros, outros, breaks, measures, key changes, etc. Because songs that he may use as an example, may not be structured like yours. Not all house is structured the same. Not all trance is created the same. A structure doesn't exist when making music. Btw, thanks for the compliment:)

I think that blokes pretty safe as it goes. Hes just the sorta person I'd get along with as I love learning about all the different styles of dance music and how theyre structered. Only thing I can point out is that he shouldnt relate euro house so much with hard house as they are in actual fact 2 completely different styles. The choon he was playing by Orion Too was actually EURO TRANCE! I think theres a hard trance remix of that song which is absolutly superb.. cant be 100% sure tho! :-s

i don't believe the future of dance music lies in the standard 8 bars beat stopping typical structured format it stinks and has been done to death and is only done for ease of churning out tracks as fast as possible and unfortunately is taught as the correct method of music creation
there should be no right and wrong this is rave and should never have been tamed

This guy hasnt got a fucking clue if he thinks Trance is an EASY style of music, but thats probably because of the cheesy wank he listens too, and no key changes? there are many tracks which contain a multitude of extremely advance key changes. Not only that but many tracks have extremely differant and varied structure. 'Close your eyes and imagine the crowd thinking yeah I like that sound' YOU COCKSHUFFLER!

Then towards the end of the vid he says theres a part where theres `not much going on` hmmm well thats funny cause i can hear a Kick, 2 open hats, a closed hat, a clap, a snare, a lead synth, another lead synth, a bassline, an arpeggio, a vocal, not to mention reverb, delay, BBE sonic maximizer, compression, EQ etc etc etc. And guess what dumbass this NOT Hard House or Euro House this is Commercial Trance.

i know hard house has become much broader than what it used to be, but it does not sound anything like this. ive never heard of data releasing a hard house track, and ive been listening to hard dance religiously for at least 10 years! however, name technicalities aside, it was a good video with good info :)

He was counting the bars, not the beats. They are different. You can count bars via counting with the beats up to four. (I may be wrong) 1,2,3,4 bar 1 1,2,3,4 bar 2 and so on.
