Hear those tom-toms at the beginning? That's because the Trees are fucking wicked bad.

Saw 'em in St. Louis and totally took it for granted as a youngster. Would kill to relive the experience. Not asking for a reunion. Just something to save the godawful state of contemporary music.
They just don't ... ( 2 months ago by SuperDoggy99)
They just don't make music like this any more. Goddamn, the first half of the 90s went by too fast.

Hi Branyers. I was just wondering:
Why is it that every generation seems to say that about the music of the generation after them?
Like you, I also mainly like
´music of the (2-4 decades) past´ because I understand the feelings behind it better. But I think that today´s generation also recognise their feeling-of-life in contemporary music, even if we don´t understand that.. Sister Aretha has a word for that, it has 7 letters ;-)
Don't be ... ( 2 months ago by Branyers)
Don't be presumptuous. It's annoying. I still closely follow contemporary independent music (radio is trash). My musical tastes never stagnate. Otherwise I'd get bored. Used to listen to 60s and 70s rock too. I have a good deal of respect for many bands of that era as well. The simple fact is, the Trees have always been criminally underrated and it's blasphemy because they just fucking jam. Listen to this song again if you need to understand.

Exactly. Big mistake to rely on radio to bring you new talents. You must delve deeper of your own accord.
But then, the Trees never got much airplay ;-)

My two best friends were there. I was in the military in VA doing training. THey wrote back telling me about this opening unknown band, that totally kicked ass! I got back, heard Butterfly, and have been hooked ever since.

IMO, they should have headlined that show. But there just ain't no justice! The Trees deserve the big stage, but I think they would sound totally awesome at a smaller indoor venue with good acoustics. Be sure to check out Lanegan's solo stuff, especially "The Winding Sheet". It's more mellow, but his awesome song writing talent is in full effect.

I was born a little too late, but a like 90's music way more than today's music because a lot of music for some reason had gotten uncreative and formulaic. There are some exceptions, but there just aren't as many amazing groups any more. Especially not in the mainstream.

i listen to xm radio and they have played them sometimes, so it just goes to show you that all radio doesn't suck. Just FM radio.

Still my favorite Screaming Trees song.
Its a very, very sad fact that more people haven't heard of Lanegan and the Conners, and even more disappointing that this song isn't respected for everything it is. And that this entire album isn't even Gold certified yet. (I do believe . . .)
