its faster in straight line, it beat gt2 on nurburgring ring as well as Nordschleife. so its faster in straight line and on track but that doesnt mean its a faster car??!?!

The GT-R is faster than the GT2 around the Ring, yet Car and Driver and Motortrend confirmed that the Porsche is the faster car. The same will probably happen with the ZR-1.

Care to share where you got those times and how are they official? From what I know, the ZR1 time hasn't been confirmed and the GTR V-Spec doesn't even exist officially! I'd still take the Porsche any day, it's sleek and low like a sportscar should be, not like an overdesigned shoebox (GTR). The ZR1 does look good though...

no worries, no damper on the mood: 911 turbo faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile than gtr. and better brakes (july issue car and drive). granted the gtr can lap the ring faster - I guess the gtr owner can always tell this to the 911 turbo owner after he beats him off the line at a light.

You particularly named german manufacturers. And appart from VW they're the pineacle of auto engineering in the world, so I call bullshit on your "discoverings". You just can't have a more complete over the top comfy limo than the E-class, there is no faster limo than the M3, there is no better all round sportscar than a 911. I never heard of electrical problems either, that'd have killed the brand.

alright, im tired of this gt-r talk. for one...the gt-r isnt faster than the GT2..but is faster than the turbo..but, who cares about straight line times, porsche road races, and that ferrari f1 comment and porsche needing to step up...porsche is the most race winning company in history of auto sports. just because they dont race f1 doesnt make ferrari better.

Wow Porsche's 997 GT2 is amazing.... but knowing that the Ferrari F430 Scuderia and Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 beat it in a straight line and on the track, I want to see how they respond.

I agree, its an amazing car, even doe I'm not a porsche fan...btw: the F430 Scuderia isn't faster on the track, it has a laptime of 7.39 min on the Nuerburgring and GT2 has 7.33!

7:29 or 7:25 is time of GTR-V reported by attending observers ONLY!!!
Fastest record was held by Carrera-GT at 7:28since it's lunch in 2004, now Viper-ACR has that pleasure as of 8/18/08 it did 7:22, then ZR1 at 7:26, then Zonda-F clubsport at 7:27 in'07.

Fastest record EVER done, by ANYTHING, I mean anything: Prod-cars, race cars, Rally cars, F-1, F-2, GT cars, bikes, etc. It happened not in 2008, but in 1983. 1.5L I4 BMW F-2 lap the ring in 6:28, one month later Porsche 956 did it in 6:11. Hard to believe but past 25years nothing has been mad
e to even lap under 7 minutes. Bit early in 70s Ferrari F-1 done it in 6:58. Next hero is 01/M3-GTR did it in 7:06

That's because Ferrari doesn't test their cars on the Nurburgring. When a manufacturer supports the test, the car is much faster because there are engineers present to make sure the car is being driven at 100%.

24 year old Steven Jones has just won the Targa West Tarmac rally in Australia, behind the wheel of the new R35 GT-R. This makes him the youngest driver ever to win the Targa West and is also the first ever competition victory for the new R35 version of the GT-R. He beat the reigning champ and Multiple Targa rally victor Jim Richards who was behind the wheel of a one-off Porsche built RS Spec 997 GT2. Amazingly, the GT-R won using factory fitted road rubber(Re070) vs the GT2's R-compounds.
