I've actually heard that sometimes when a .22 bullet puntures the skull it will ricochet off the back of the skull and cause maximum damage.

if the hog isnt killed instantly then it will have pumped loads of adrenaline into its system, ruining the meat. whenever this guy shoots something it runs away before dieing in some distant bush, and its meat will be tough.

highly unlikely that anything shot with a bow is going to be killed instantly... it's a rare but beautiful thing when it DOES happen. i'd bet my browning illusion that this hog didn't make it 100 yards before kicking up dirt. it was good shot placement, and so long as you field dress 'em within a few hours you're in pretty good shape.

Trophy or not, wild hogs can cause millions of dollars in agricultural damage. Hunting helps to control the population.
