it's strange seeing singers just stand there. i guess they usually recorded with a single microphone and it was the standard then. if singers just stood around today, it would look awkward.

I learned to sing this song in the late '60's in High School Glee Club...of course it was done then with 50 or so voices, a bit different than a Quartet, but this is much better..it has a real feeling...

Short answer: No.
Long answer: The group were formed in 1934. They continued to perform until Otha Lee Gaines's (one of the members) death on July 15, 1987.

Gaines & Lee had moved to Sweden (where the group were huge stars-more famous, in fact, than in the U.S.). I learned of them yesterday, while watching an old NBC evening news clip. (You can see it on Vanderbilt University's television news archive h*t*t*p /*/* tvnews . vanderbilt . edu) Bryant's death was sad and bizarre! He told someone at Gaines' funeral, that he would soon be joining Gaines in heaven; he collapsed and died while giving Gaines' eulogy.
