Incredible. Absolutely freakin incredible, tremendous rescue. These guys are the pride of America. do they do it for the money? Hardly. I've never seen a member of the Coast Guard getting rich (in money) doing their jobs. We should double the salary of every one of these guys. They should get so much per rescue.

Why do they drop each person off one at a time? Why not get all 4 of them in the chopper and then take them all back to the ground together? Is there not enough room or something?

I have flown on many missions with the CG as a flight mechanic. You raise a good ?. The Dolphin is a small helicopter compared to others, but they should have been able to fit them inside. The only thing I can think of is they did not want to leave the kids unattended inside the helo. Regardless of the reason, I know the crew talked about the pros and cons of their decision beforehand.

I have lived there all my life (still do), i don't think any one has ever lived going over 'till this rescue! GREAT JOB, Coast Guard! Thanks for saving people that cannot read the many many signs all over the river. lol

Probably a few reasons. They may have wanted to get the kids to EMS ASAP to treat for hypothermia. The cabin of the HH65C is pretty small. Limited space depending on how many crew and how much gear they brought. Lastly, depending on wind direction and speed, air temp and fuel load they may have had power concerns. The pilots, swimmer, and flight mech discuss it all before they begin the evolution and come up with the best plan for the current situation.

well its pretty bad that anyone who does a service that involves saving lives like coast guard, police, rescue teams, etc get low salaries but sports athletes and rappers are raking in millions.
