Beware it gets creepy and dark the earlier you go it seems you should hear as I sat sadly by her side and the mercy seat (if you havent) just to get get a senc of his music you can find them on youtube.

Yeah thanks for the tip. His newer work seems much more melodic and well, "lighter" as you put it. I've only gotten a very shallow image of his music, I cant wait to really sit down and read / listen to the lyrics, especially the older stuff.

A person gets really tired of music videos cut short before the song has actually finished. How about next time, out of respect for the artist, letting the video play out in its entirety, and not just when you happen to think the volume has reached a suitably low level? I don't care if it is only a matter of a couple of seconds, it can make a lot of difference to the subtle ending of a piece.

I think his new music is just as creepy and dark, in a lot of respects, it just doesn't sound like it. I mean, the stuff he did with Grinderman is incredibly depraved, and Abattoir Blues, the song, is the creepiest description of an advanced consumerist society I've ever heard. It's more subtle and psychological, now, I think, but the old Nick Cave is totally still there.

To be honest I don't think this video does the song justice. It's a beautiful song, written to utter perfection. Some of the lines just blow me away, they're in a different league to anything I've ever heard. The song is vibrant, it's a story, and it's told magnificently, Lord knows Nick Cave tells it best, but the video is dingey, it's just the band in a dark room with 2 second shots of blooming flowers. It's just stimulus and no substance, I think I'll stick to the video in my mind. Good Song.

totally agree. been a Cave fan(worhsip-er) for the past 20 years. Ironic though that the Mercy Seat video was my initial introduction to the man. But I agree, his videos have never been the strong-point. And I think that's a great thing.

I honestly feel it's his attempt at being "hip" to the younger people (though imho he doesn't have to do anything to be hip). Most music videos are like this now. I'm just glad he made one for it at all, though I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed in it in comparison to his other ones. He tends to tell stories in his videos as well as the songs....
