The Soup Dragons, of course, were one of the earliest "bogus" indie bands, in the chart in the earliest days via a false label (Raw TV) whilst being financed entirely by Sire Records. Sadly, this trend would continue to gather pace, and by the early nineties all manner of psuedo-indies were set
up purely to gain bands credibility and exposure on items like the Chart Show Indie Chart. The most ridiculous label was Island Red (who Salad were signed to). They were effectively Island records with the logo coloured red but being distributed by an indie company!
