rpm is measure by the crankshaft revolutions. there are less moving parts in a smaller engine, but i think the main reason smaller engines rev higher is for more power.

omg i couldnt agree more because it happened to me..! dude i feel so bad for your clutch and if your unlucky enough like me.. your transfer case will go bad too and that part is 3600 bucks. thank god for warranty!

There are a few reasons...
More cylinders have more torque as there is usually more capicity (larger amount of A/F mixture) being burnt at the same time creating more torque.
Inline fours are usually lower capacity than V8's...thus according to the equation..Power = Torque * RPM...you will have to increase RPM in order to gain power in a smaller capacity engine...as torque is limited...a way of creating torque is Forced Induction... Also it is easier to balance a Inlin

It takes alot more complex engineering and design to make a V8 balanced enough to rev to high RPM than it is for an Inline 4...thats why the only V8's you see that are reliable and capable of over ~7000rpm are Ferrari's etc.. ;)
Then you also have to consider cam design (timing, lift and duration) determines where the power is produced. Thus why Variable Valve Timing and lift systems like Honda's VTEC were so successful at producing linear and high end power without sacrificing drivability.

Not sure what V8's you're calling unreliable, but the LS6 is an incredibly reliable engine. There are C5 vettes with over 100K miles still smoking race tracks all over the world. Forced induction wears down an engine more than its naturally aspirated counter-part. No ifs, ands, or buts. And Ferrari's aren't that reliable. The engine needs a tune up and service every 30,000 miles at best. If you maintain any engine, it'll last. No I4 will automatically last any longer than a V8, and vice versa.

Completely Agree. I didn't say anything about reliability or the fact that forced induction wears down the engine more, expessially without aftermarket lower compression/stronger internals. I said its more difficult to make a V8 rev high and be reliable...as its more difficult to balance and blueprint a V8 engine compared to a straight 4. Thus why Ferarri's etc. and other exotics have high redlines.

An evo would generally have better 0-60 if launched properly due to two main reasons...AWD provides better launches compared to FWD/RWD and the mustangs having larger engines (more torque) would be better in LATER GEARS such as 4th, 5th and 6th. I4's are usually fast over 0-60 but are average over
the 1/4 Mile Runs. Put the Evo and Mustang on a track and there is no competition. Your reply sounds like a typical rednecks uneducated, unfounded bias opinion...

It'd be harder to blueprint and balance a V8 simply because there are more parts. And while most V8's tend to have lower redlines than most imports (anything Honda, my RX8, etc) they tend to have much more efficient powerbands. High revving cars are very fun though for some reason. I can't get enough of 150 revolutions per second =)

An evo's 0-60 run is slow compared to what...an Enzo or ZR1 maybe? I know there are a lot of idiots out there who try to make their fuel efficient Civic into a 'racecar', but the Evo is a ligit performance car from the ground up. I like all cars. American, Japanese, European, fast is fast man. They all have different strategies for making fast cars. But at the end of the day, a win is a win. Don't be so ignorant and closed-minded.
