Randy Newman takes a fun loving poke at ELO with his satirical song "Story of a Rock n Roll Band". Ironically, in 1988, Newman and ELO frontman Jeff Lynne worked together on Newman's album "Land Of Dreams".

I think he was making fun of ELO with out a doubt. Yeah, he used Jeff Lynn later to produce a track or two but the isn't really the same thing as the entity - ELO(and they are hilarious in concept).
Randy was making fun of ELO and so was the video.

Newman is just too funny. I'm a huge ELO fan, and this could be them except for the voice. Bu Newman is great in his own right. "Falling In Love" is a great tune
