So what else is new? This has been going on in the music industry at least for the past 40 years. What, did you think lil Mike Jackson and his teenage brothers wrote all those hits themselves? Google it yourself - the group who wrote those songs was called THE CORPORATION. It's the same complaint we hear every decade or so. "Today's music sucks; it needs to be saved before it dies." Please. Music evolves whether you like it or not. Listeners and critics need to do the same.

I didn't mean 'pop' as in a style of music, I meant pop as a product... which was being explored in this video. There are tons of artists out there who I'd consider 'pop' (in terms of style) who are brilliant. Cut/Copy, Junior Boys, Roisin Murphy. I don't really put them in the same category as the music described in this little documentary.

whatever's popular is, by definition, mediocre. art is, by definition, exceptional. if music is art, there's no pop music. there's pop shit. and music that sounds like pop, but uses it as a springboard into something more inventive... which isn't to say it's not sold under the degrading label "pop." plenty of good music is.
