I use photoshop and change the opacity of the brush to around 20 - 40%

Its called construction any artist that knows how to draw uses construction to get an idea of what the final picture looks like, once the artist is happy with his constructed drawing they commit to the linework and go darker but I am guessing you know that because you are an artist...

i like to draw in photoshop with my tablet but my lines are too dark and thick. what settings did you have your brush on?
