The Searcher Long Range Pelagic

Video Description:
Sept 4-6, 2006 trip out of San Diego. On this trip we saw 5 Red-billed Tropicbirds and a Dark-rumped Storm Petrel. This video features Don Des Jardin who was instrumental in creating this twice annual trip. Don resides in Ventura, California, where he has been an active birder since 1989 and is currently Ventura County's top lister with 406 species. Because Ventura is located on the southern California coast, it was only natural that he also became interested in pelagic birding. Over the years, Don has logged well over 40 days at sea on both single and multi-day pelagic trips in southern California waters. He also has spent countless hours pelagic birding from land at Point Mugu, Ventura County, and has compiled a list of impressive pelagic species over the years that would be the envy of even a die-hard pelagic birder.
