| Rather apologized for this (1980) and stated he "mistook who the person was". Apparently all this had to do with a lawsuit against Rather/CBS brought by a woman named Carl Galloway who was wrongly named in an insurance fraud scheme on 60 minutes. Since Rather purportedly kept denying interviews related to this mishap, the journalist tried to get a surprise interview (similar to 60 min style) I don't know if this is all true or not but it might give some insight on what provoked Rather here. |

| i believe the reporter is steve wilson, now at channel 7 in detroit. he has a history of ambushing people in question for interviews. currently he is investigating detroit's mayor on using taxpayers' money for personal use. wilson is the man. |
