Really? What do you think the "point" is? It's not that Coraline is trapped in a hostile world and is constantly in danger? Apparently Weiby screws that all up. Neil Gaiman said that he was fine with Weiby, and I think he gets the "point" of his own book. We'll see, I guess.

The cat's in the book, too. Gaiman claims the reason why Weiby works is so that "the movie isn't just a girl walking around occasionally talking to herself". That works better in a book than a movie. You should see Day 4 of the Coraline Sneak Peek Week. It will explain a few things.

Well these previews don't show the best bits of the story, like when Coraline finds the remains of the Other Father or Other Mrs. Forcible and Mrs. Spink, or when the Beldam's hand starts chasing her. They haven't shown any of the really frightening moments. This is being directed by the man behind "The Nightmare Before Christmas"; I wouldn't be too worried. ;)

The Cat IS in it, he's just not featured very prominently in these preview videos. Also, since the Cat isn't around that much, Weiby is there so that most of the movie isn't just Coraline wandering around talking to herself.

I think that the creepy parts will look creepier BECAUSE the regular parts look so un-creepy. The contrast should be very effective. I trust this creative team to get it right.

This preview doesn't have any of the scenes in the second half of the book, when it starts getting really frightening. The first half was also not very creepy, either. ;)

The book was great. Coraline looks a little silly looking in the movie. I hope it's as dark as the book.
