Fortunately, there are some great nat king cole vids with him playing that monster archtop of his. Man, what a player. As a musician, I have always looked at guys like him and wondered, man, if a player like him cant survive on his talent, I shouldn't even try. Darn shame, because it is so fine to create music all the time.

No one could play more beautifully than Carl Perkins, who somehow worked out an original style mixing Bud Powell and Erroll Garner. He overcame a deformed left arm (play with it parallel to the keyboard, his thumb below his little finger), but he couldn't get the better of the heroin. Like Hank Mobley, he's probably another giant who never was filmed. (Even on this cut, you can tell that's Carl on piano without looking.)

very true.. but things were different in those times.. a lot of the jazz guys were finding a hard time making a living.. especially with the racism etc.. also, jazz was never that popular.. atleast these days, someone could also teach as well as play for a living

I'm pretty sure it was a Gibson L5. The lonely guitar in the slideshow is an Epiphone, not related to Moore.
