I am a figurative ... ( 3 weeks ago by woofer0doofer)
I am a figurative artist who got into yale and cooper u. and I resent when people like Thomas Kinkade as he is a poor technical draftsman and his work is vapid and trite. It gave me pause that there are profs. here who don't like his work. I like Kathleen Battle but I guess I am musically ignorant because I don't see the difference. Still, PP makes people who wouldn't listen to this genre listen and that can't be all bad. His debut vid made me cry.

(continued) There are self taught artists like Henry Darger who you get the sense could be masters if only they'd had the schooling, perhaps that is the case here? I don't think art is so much a "gift" as aptitude coupled with hard work. If he is poor in Italian he should take some pride and learn it but still he can't put his career on hold, a girl in my German class still sang at concerts and she frequently made mistakes. Art can be appreciated on many different levels.
Paul singing this ... ( 3 weeks ago by walkonwildside)
Paul singing this song makes it so emotional, that quality in his voice stirs up more emotion than anyone I have heard, I think technically he is quite good, but that can be polished up, but music is to be heard with heart, not with technical perfection.

Stop the garbage ... ( 1 week ago by Sqid101)
Stop the garbage Anastaniel. Anybody can learn to project over an orchestra and most opera singers do not have more powerful voices than the likes of Potts. This is a stupid lie you idiots keep repeating because you have no rational arguments. It has been proved wrong by people with sound-meters, and it is a statistical improbability that all crossover singers have so much weaker voices. You talk psychotic garbage Anastaniel. If this is the best you can do, conventional opera must be crap.

According to the crackpot standards of conventional opera, maybe. But standards do change, Ed. This is something you braindead clots from traditional opera don't understand, I know, but it is true. And nor are the standards of opera written in tablets of stone anywhere. The type of prose used by Dickens is quite different from that used by Grahame Greene. Greene's is much simp[er and easier to follow; has he dumbed writing down?

Everybody knows that Paul is a good lyric tenor. In this number, I don't hear any comfort in the Italianate style. I think he will be using an occasional operatic piece to pepper his Popera career.

just that it isn't as powerful as Pavarotti (over-used example i know) he may be able to get in as a counter-tenor, but i still think he belongs in the Popera world. non the less, Paul Potts is incredible.
Paul belongs in the ... ( 2 days ago by tomrememberme8)
Paul belongs in the opera world not the pop opera world, and his voice is very powerful, alot like the young Pavarotti when he was just starting out, his voice grew with time and training. I think your remark very sarchastic.

Not a diamond in the rough anymore, he has just sang Nessum Dorma at Pasay City Phillipines, and it is one of the best I have heard, he is now up there with the greats, I said he would get better with time, he has got better, and is going to get better, Paul is now a diamond polished.

you guys, in no way was saying that he was a popera singer intended to be offensive. He will have more sucess as a popera singer for sure. but we are just dealing with two very closely related types of music (popera and opera)
