Sorry, my source is ... ( 2 weeks ago by budlong)
Sorry, my source is NOT Wikipedia - it's GROUT, fourth edition, pages 837-838
Here follows the quote:
page 837:
"...For Diaghilev and Paris, Stravinsky wrote The Fire Bird (1910), Petrushka (1911), and Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring, subtitled Pictures of Pagen Russia; 1913).

....Sacre is ... ( 2 weeks ago by budlong)
....Sacre is undoubtedly the most famous composition of the early twentieth centruy. Its first performance provoked a famous riot in Paris (see vignette), though in the long run this work, along with The Fire Bird and Petrushka, has enjoyed more public favor than Stravinsky's later compositions."
as I've told you in ... ( 2 weeks ago by BernardProfitendieu)
as I've told you in response to the many e-mails you insist on sending me on this subject, an unhappy house isn't considered a riot in any country. Stravinsky and Diaghilev were showmen happy to let rubes like you believe a story like that for publicity
a)get a life b)don't believe everything you read c)think for yourself rather than relying on second and third hand "quotations" d)quoting isn't a substitute for thinking e)consider yourself blocked
1.- I sent my ... ( 2 weeks ago by budlong)
1.- I sent my responses to you personally, a private conversation. You chose to respond publicly, so will I.
2. 2 emails is not many.
4. quote I sent you was Stravinsky's own words.
5. P126 Ballet and Modern dance: A concise history - describes fist fights - is that not a part of a riot?
6. Diaghalev's Ballets Russes(1989) references Buckle's biography of Njinsky(p. 299-301).
The Dance Handbook(1988) p57-59
Consider 1913 - audiences often expressed their opinions, even violently.

1. what makes you think I would want to have a private conversation with you, you're a complete stranger? (dieu merci!)
2. 2 e-mails from you is 2 too many!
3. usually 3 follows 2, you might try brushing up on your cipherin', Jethro
4. you're the biggest tool I've ever seen on Youtube (and lord knows there are some gargantuan tools here!)
5. I'll bet you live alone with 7 cats and your apartment reeks of urine (yours, not the cats')

Actually, Evilthings, they're Rusyns[ancient Ukrainians], which is frequently mistranslated as "Russian." I heard that Stravinsky got the idea for the composition from an archaelogy book owned by his Ukrainian wife.
