Most impressively, his glorious B4 lasted well into his 50s. And he even mustered an impressive C5 in O Soave Fanciulla (La Boheme) back in 1990 at age 55. He was sublime, in fact he still is thanks to the available audiovisual media.

Applause AFTER...not during. But the applause after almost tore the house down...they were standing, stomping their feet as well as clapping, cheering and SCREAMING. It was quite the ovation. It was deserved.
