1/Dexterity: Agreed. 2/Accuracy: Probably equal: Note is either right or wrong. But if lo's r weak/wrong, it's more obvious than hi's: Hi's don't imply harmonic structure as strongly; mistakes often heard as melody choice. It IS a good trick, but making do w/self-imposed limitations isn't same as making all the music possible. 3/I dont mean harmony shredding, but virtually playing exactly what's being played here, on 2 guitars, w/the added expression possible. No biggy, just my preferrence.

I disagree about accuracy being equal. I also disagree about the higher notes not implying melody. Every note in an arpeggio is important....1,3,5. If any note is wrong...the chord simply isn't there. Anyway, like you said....no biggie.

1/Thats why I gave u dexterity. U either hit a rite note or not: U're either accurate or not.100% Accuracy:Best u can do. I know more notes to play=more notes to be accurate: That's dexterity. 2/Every note's important, but: If u screw up a 3rd, u probably only made a Maj into a min, or vice versa. Screw up the 1st note & u build the chord/arpeggio on a totally wrong scale tone: A bigger mistake. On established pieces:mistakes r mistakes. On a jammed piece, the higher tones have more lee-way.

Again....we can agree to disagree. Making a major third into a minor, or vice versa is a still a wrong scale tone. Pretty deadly mistake on either account. Like you said, though...no biggie. : )

One point to be made, though. This is about the easiest thing Paul does as far as extreme technical ability goes. : )

Also, referring to the impressive argument. You may be forgetting about how well this is played. It's very clean. : ) I enjoy talking to educated people, though. : ) Have a good one.
1/Improvising, ... ( 15 hours ago by lazur1)
1/Improvising, alone, 3rds can be moved around for expression. On a known piece, our ears would be trained to expect certain notes/if chords were in support, we'd expect tonal agreement. 2/Agreed on PGs ability in general & fine execution of this trick. 3/I've heard pieces by 2 guitars of music simple enough for 1 to play give resonance beyond what could've been achieved solo. Virtuosity & musicality can be found together, but aren't the same thing. Thus I call this a -good- trick.
Expression of ... ( 15 hours ago by yngvaigilbsteen)
Expression of moving thirds is only if a reference is not known and is done artfully. If you've heard this piece, the notes have to be correct. Thirds, fifths, or roots. Correct on the virtuosity/musicality. You're insinuating that this isn't musical, but it is : )
further, moving ... ( 15 hours ago by yngvaigilbsteen)
further, moving roots is not immune from expression on a solo piece that is "new" to the listener.

(I'll accept that you're more familiar with the piece than I am, so ok, if you say so.) Not that it isn't musical at all, but that the technical trick adds novelty & humor but loses some possibilities for expression & diverts some attention from the music to the trick. I know it's just a short segment, followed by 1man/1guitar, but it's a pet peeve.

You're only causing me to talk more. You already know that I almost always respond, so blame yourself. If you hate the talk, stay up at the top & listen to the clip, don't scroll down whatever you do, people are talking down there!

I'll give you that. He definitely could have done more with the piece than just solo guitar. And, Paul does have a sense of humor, which, in my opinion....is not a bad thing. Although, for me...it still sounds pretty cool. I don't mind solo instruments as long as it's done well. Hence the Paganini 24 caprices...stuff like that. Also, if you were to just listen to it...you're not distracted by the humor of the human capo. Good discussion. : )
